Burleigh published several versions of the Negro spiritual " Deep River " in 1916 and 1917, and he quickly became known for his arrangements of spirituals for voice and piano ; one of his arrangements in Common Metre is the hymn tune " McKee ", used with John Oxenham's hymn In Christ There Is No East or West.

His publication of Psalms, The Book of Psalmes: Englished both in Prose and Metre with Annotations ( Amsterdam, 1612 ), which includes thirty-nine separate monophonic psalm tunes, constituted the Ainsworth Psalter, the only book of music brought to New England in 1620 by the Pilgrim settlers.

The Metre Convention ( Convention du Mètre ) of 1875 mandated the establishment of a permanent International Bureau of Weights and Measures ( BIPM: Bureau International des Poids et Mesures ) to be located in Sèvres, France.

The Van Metre family were first to settle in 1803. The town was organized in 1857 and is named for the explorer Hernando De Soto, who claimed the Louisiana Territory for Spain.

His later 1970s albums ( with the exception of Jazz, which explored ragtime / vaudeville ) do not fall under a single genre description, but his self-titled first album could be described as blues ; Into the Purple Valley, Boomer's Story, and Paradise and Lunch as folk and blues ; Chicken Skin Music and Showtime as a mix of Tex-Mex and Hawaiian ; Bop Till You Drop as 1950s ' R & B ; and Borderline and Get Rhythm as rock-based.

They scored several major hits including " Happy Music " ( No. 3 R & B, No. 19 pop ), " Walking In Rhythm " ( No. 4 R & B, No. 6 pop ) and " Rock Creek Park ".
