In 1957, he published Gregorian Rhythm in the Gregorian Centuries ; the Literary Evidence which presented excerpts from the medieval theoretical writings in English and Latin.

In 1959, he published The Authentic Rhythm of Gregorian Chant which statedly presented, in edited fashion,

This reform movement gained strength with the election of Pope Gregory VII in 1073, who adopted a series of measures in the movement known as the Gregorian Reform, in order to fight strongly against simony and the abuse of civil power and try to restore ecclesiastical discipline, including celibacy.

As archbishop, he was appointed papal legate to France by Pope Paschal II during the time that Paschal was induced under pressure from Holy Roman Emperor Henry V to issue the Privilegium of 1111, by which he yielded much of the papal prerogatives that had been so forcefully claimed by Pope Gregory VII in the Gregorian Reforms.

In Rome Gregory XIII built the magnificent Gregorian chapel in the Basilica of St. Peter, and extended the Quirinal Palace in 1580.

He was one of the most prominent and active supporters of the Gregorian reforms, especially as legate in Germany in 1084 and was among the few whom Gregory VII nominated as possible successors to be pope.

The Revised Julian Calendar temporarily aligned its dates with the Gregorian Calendar proclaimed in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII for adoption by the Christian world.

Historians disagree on the precise way it was recovered in Northern Italy about 1070: perhaps it was waiting unneeded and unnoticed in a library until the legal studies that were undertaken on behalf of papal authority that was central to the Gregorian Reform of Pope Gregory VII led to its accidental rediscovery.

Plainchant is believed to originate from the 3rd century A. D. Gregorian chant is a variety of plainsong named after Pope Gregory I ( 6th century A. D .), although Gregory himself did not invent the chant.
