Rand tells Moiraine that Mat has been suspicious and withdrawn, and Moiraine diagnoses Mat's " sickness " as the corrupting influence of a ruby dagger Mat took from Shadar Logoth.

Loial warns Moiraine of a threat to the Eye of the World, which is confirmed by vivid and disturbing dreams Mat, Rand and Perrin have had.

It is revealed that Moiraine did not die, however, and she is rescued by Mat and Thom in " Towers of Midnight ".

It is revealed by Moiraine that Rand ( like his friends Mat Cauthon and Perrin Aybara ) is Ta ' veren-a person around whom the Pattern is woven.

Rand, his two friends ( Perrin Aybara and Mat Cauthon ), his childhood sweetheart Egwene al ' Vere and the gleeman Thom Merrilin were led out of Emond's Field by Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred and her Warder, al ' Lan Mandragoran ( the group is eventually joined by Emonds Field's Wisdom, Nynaeve al ' Meara ).

He then set out with Mat, Egwene and Moiraine to the Waste, seeking the endorsement of the Aiel as their Car ' a ' carn, literally a " chief of chiefs ".

When Rand and his party arrive in the Waste she is amongst those that give permission for Rand, Mat and Moiraine to enter Rhuidean.

He asked to join Mat and Thom Merrilin in their quest to free Moiraine Damodred from the Tower of Ghenjei.

Moiraine Damodred grabs Lanfear and both topple through the doorframe ter ' angreal that Mat used in the waste.

Rand uses a Portal Stone to transport Mat, Egwene, Moiraine, and the Aiel at the Stone of Tear from Tear to the Aiel Waste, where Taardad and Shaido Aiel are waiting for them.

The Aiel Wise Ones have Moiraine, Aviendha ( a former maiden of the spear seeking to become a Wise One ), and Rand enter Rhuidean, and allow Mat to go with Rand.

When Trollocs invaded the Two Rivers region, Rand, Mat and Perrin were spirited away by Moiraine Damodred, Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, apparently for their own protection.

Mat, like Rand and Perrin, was led away from the Two Rivers on Winternight by Moiraine Damodred, and it was revealed that all three were ta ' veren, threads that create a swirl in the pattern disrupting the surrounding area.

In Knife of Dreams Mat finally brings up the courage to ask Thom Merrilin about the note that Moiraine handed him before she entered the land of the Aelfinn and Eelfinn while attacking Lanfear.

The note explained that Moiraine was a prisoner and that Mat, Thom and a third member were to enter the land via a mysterious spire called The Tower of Ghenjei.

Once in the Chamber of Bonds, Mat offers one of his eyes as payment for the safe return of Moiraine, a straight passage back to their doorway and that none of the Eelfinn will stop them.

Mistakenly, Mat forgets to bargain for safety from the snake like Aelfinn, and the group ( plus a weakened Moiraine ) is deterred from returning the way they came.

When Moiraine absconded with several Two Rivers youths — specifically Rand al ' Thor, his friends Mat Cauthon and Perrin Aybara, and Rand's childhood sweetheart ( and Nynaeve's apprentice ) Egwene al ' Vere, Nynaeve volunteered to track them down and bring them back.

Egwene was also identified as having ability to channel ( although she had not channeled yet ), but Moiraine wished to take her to Tar Valon for training and safety ; not all who must learn to channel on their own survive the experience.

In The Shadow Rising, at the order of Rand al ' Thor and Lan Mandragoran, he accompanies Nynaeve and Elayne when they travel to the city of Tanchico ( Thom Merrilin is similarly compelled to go with them by Moiraine ).

After the events at the Eye of the World, Egwene and Nynaeve were brought to Tar Valon where, along with Min Farshaw ( previously introduced to them by Moiraine at Baerlon ), they met Elayne Trakand.

After Egwene and Siuan investigate Siuan's suspicions about Myrelle, Egwene exploits the transfer of Lan's Warder bond from Moiraine to Myrelle in order to force Myrelle and Nisao to swear fealty to her.

After being sent down out of the Mountains of Mist, along with other Shienaran soldiers, in search of an elderly women in Ghealdan by Moiraine, he styles himself The Prophet of the Dragon and heads a quasi-anti-establishment social order in the western regions of Randland, with the ostensible purpose of gathering followers in support of the Dragon Reborn.

Min has left the camp by order of Moiraine to report to the Amyrlin on what has transpired.

However Be ' lal was killed with balefire by Moiraine before he was able to kill Rand, thus he cannot be reincarnated by the Dark One, as his thread is burned out of the Pattern.

Ishamael, when free, can use Tel ' aran ' rhiod ; believing him to be the Dark One, Moiraine assumed in The Eye of the World that his appearances in dreams meant that the seals on Shayol Ghul were weakening greatly.

Hoping to save their village from further attacks, the young men and Egwene flee the village accompanied by an Aes Sedai named Moiraine Damodred, her Warder Al ' Lan Mandragoran and a Gleeman Thom Merrilin.

Moiraine, Lan and Nynaeve rescue Egwene and Perrin from the Whitecloaks in time to escape their fate.

It is revealed that Moiraine believes Rand is the Dragon Reborn.

Additional similarities exist between Trollocs and Orcs, Myrddraal and Nazgûl, Padan Fain and Gollum, Lan and Aragorn, Moiraine and Gandalf, Baerlon and Bree, The Mountains of Mist and The Misty Mountains, The Ways and Moria, The Black Wind and The Balrog, and the Green Man and Treebeard.

Another theme prominent in the book is the nature of trust ; the people of the Two Rivers have to rely on Moiraine, but they fear she is only manipulating them and using them for her own ends.

Siuan reminisces and plots with fellow Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred and Verin.

One of the most prominent causes currently undertaken is that of Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche: the discovery, assistance, and protection of the Dragon Reborn Rand al ' Thor.

Moiraine is the first Aes Sedai revealed in the Wheel of Time series.

As Rand could not bring himself to harm a woman, Moiraine took matters into her own hands and Moiraine shoved Lanfear through a ter ' angreal that led to the land of the Aelfinn and Eelfinn, ending her assault but also apparently ending both their lives.

After her escape however, we learn that Moiraine is greatly weakened and requires the use of an Angreal to channel the One Power.

We further learn that Moiraine and Thom are in love.

The sharp-tongued daughter of a fisherman from Tear, Siuan Sanche joined the White Tower at the same time as Moiraine Damodred.

She has been a Sitter since at least as long as Moiraine and Siuan have been Aes Sedai.

* Anlee was a Sitter at the time Moiraine and Siuan were raised about 20 years ago.

* Eadyth was an old Aes Sedai who was First Selector and a Sitter in the Hall when Moiraine and Siuan became Aes Sedai.

* Maigan is a fairly strong Aes Sedai who accompanied Siuan to Fal Dara to meet Moiraine.

This occurred in the presence of Siuan Sanche and Moiraine Damodred in the novel New Spring, thus beginning a 20-year search for the Dragon Reborn.
