In the Shining Time Station Christmas Special, Ringo Starr as Mr. Conductor is dressed in lumberjack attire, he sings the intro to the song, but changes the lyrics to " I'm a lumberjack and I'm all right.
Ringo Starr, who had already been providing the voice of the storyteller for the British series, agreed to extend the role to include the on-screen character Mr. Conductor in Shining Time Station.
Mr. Conductor is a tiny man who lives in a signal house inside the station's mural and tells the stories of " Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends " to the kids.
In the second season, it is learned that he went to the North Pole at the end of the Christmas special and his cousin, also named Mr. Conductor, moved into the signal house and took on the role that his cousin played in the first season.

The second season casting change from Mr. Starr to George Carlin as Mr. Conductor would be explained by Starr's character having left Shining Time Station to go with Mr. Nicholas to the North Pole.
