The US Navy, developing the Norden, made plans for most of its new aircraft to be able to level bomb.

The popularity of this sketch made Muir and Norden realise that they were on to something.

However, sketches of the Sphinx by the Dane Frederic Louis Norden, made in 1737 and published in 1755, illustrate the Sphinx already without a nose.

However, it was not an original Carry On joke at all: scriptwriter Talbot Rothwell requested the use of the gag from its creators, Frank Muir and Denis Norden, who had written it for BBC radio comedy show Take It From Here.

* 2005 – A tank locomotive dressed as Thomas the Tank Engine during one of the railway's Day out with Thomas events derailed at Norden while running around its train and suffered minor damages.

A revival of The Glums ( 1978 – 79 ), at first as part of a Bruce Forsyth variety series, proved rather more satisfactory, being adapted from radio scripts for the 1950s radio series Take It From Here radio series which were written by Frank Muir and Denis Norden.

Muir and Norden together wrote Take It From Here ( 1948 – 60 ), with Edwards and Bentley as two of the three stars.
