This school operated under several names ( North Texas Female College and Conservatory of Music beginning in 1892 and Kidd-Key College and Conservatory beginning in 1919 ) until 1935.

The gardens are divided into more than a dozen themes, including the Australian Garden, Camellia Collection, Children's Garden, Desert Garden Conservatory, Rose Hill Foundation Conservatory for Botanical Science, Desert Garden, Herb Garden, Japanese Garden and Zen Garden, Lily Pond, North Vista, Palm Garden, Rose garden, Elizabethan Garden ( previously called the Shakespeare garden ), Subtropical and Jungle Garden, the Chinese Garden ( Liu Fang Yuan 流芳園 or the Garden of Flowing Fragrance ) now open in the northern area of the property, and America's largest collection of the sculptural and ' palm-like ' Cycads.

The Royal Conservatory curriculum is made available and accessible to students across North America through the Examinations Certificate Program.

Among his honors and awards, Pressler has received honorary doctorates from the University of Nebraska, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the North Carolina School of the Arts, six Grammy nominations ( including one in 2006 ), a lifetime achievement award from Gramophone Magazine and the International Classical Music Awards, Chamber Music America ’ s Distinguished Service Award, the Gold Medal of Merit from the National Society of Arts and Letters.

North Atlantic Deep Water ( NADW ) is a water mass that forms in the North Atlantic Ocean.

It is believed that North Atlantic Deep Water formation has been dramatically reduced at times during the past ( such as during the Younger Dryas or during Heinrich events ), and that this might correlate with a decrease in the strength of the Gulf Stream and the North Atlantic drift, in turn cooling the climate of northwestern Europe.

A 36 year old Albin Vega sailboat, christened the St. Brendan in honor of the 6th-century Irish explorer monk, was used by Matt Rutherford of Annapolis, Maryland in his successful 309 day, 27, 077 mile solo circumnavigation of North and South America which was officially completed on April 18, 2012, when Rutherford crossed the start and finish line -- the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel outside of Norfolk, Virginia.
