After a brief stay in Bombay in July 1892, he met Bal Gangadhar Tilak during a train journey.

It is reputed for producing several luminaries like Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Pherozshah Mehta, and Jamshedji Tata.
