Parsons did not receive the Democratic Party's nomination for governor in 1854, at least partly because the party was split by question of slavery and by the formation of the Republican Party ( which held its first convention that year in Jackson, Michigan ).

Meanwhile, Adams and Parsons engaged in a lengthy feud, which lasted for more than a decade ( the two had feuded earlier in WCCW when Adams was the heel and Parsons was the babyface ), with Parsons frequently referring to Adams as " Jailbird ," a reference to Adams serving jail time in 1986 on an assault conviction.

Prior to Parsons ' departure from The Byrds, he had accompanied the two Rolling Stones to Stonehenge ( along with McGuinn and Hillman ) in the English county of Wiltshire, where Richards had a house near the ancient site.
Immediately after leaving the band, Parsons stayed at Richards ' house and the pair developed a close friendship over the next few years, with Parsons reintroducing the guitarist to country music.
