A Petroglyph is an intaglio abstract or symbolic image engraved on natural stone by various methods, usually by prehistoric peoples.

The numerous petroglyphs found at Petroglyph Beach just north of Wrangell, as well as those scattered on the beaches of the many islands in the vicinity, attest to the long Tlingit occupation.

In addition to the remote area and poor lighting, on Ometepe Island, the depth of the engraved lines on petroglyphs thus far recorded varies from “ immeasurably shallow ” to around three centimeters ( Ometepe Petroglyph Project Website, 2006 ).

The Petroglyph National Monument is a major asset for the City of Albuquerque and New Mexico but its rich trove of cultural and natural resources is threatened by the inability of the City and the National Park Service ( NPS ) to cooperatively manage the two-thirds of the monument that is City-owned land, according to documents posted on June 6, 2012 by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility ( PEER ).

Petroglyph is primarily known for their experience in RTS game development as the company's founding members worked on Command & Conquer, Earth & Beyond and Dune II.

It includes the Sloan Petroglyph Site which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 1978.

He discussed the possibility of a RTS video game set in the Star Wars universe, stating "... there's a bright future there for games based on these new properties as well as original Star Wars games like a new real-time strategy PC game that Petroglyph is developing for next year ".

He has been very involved with all the titles developed at Petroglyph, Star Wars: Empire at War ( LUCASARTS ), Universe at War ( SEGA ), Panzer General on Xbox live arcade ( UBISOFT ), Mytheon ( TRUEGAMES ), and Guardians of Graxia ( Petroglyph ), End of Nations ( TRIONWORLDS ), and Rise of Immortals ( Petroglyph ).

The Ometepe Petroglyph Project was a volunteer field survey of the Maderas half of Ometepe from 1995 – 1999.

Of the 73 sites surveyed by the Ometepe Petroglyph Project, petroglyphs were recorded at all but one.

The Ometepe Petroglyph project is an interesting example of modern technology assisting in the recording of archaeological sites.

However, it has been implied by the original creators of the series, now working at Petroglyph Games, that Red Alert 2 takes place in a parallel universe that came about as a result of time travel experiments taking place some time into the Tiberian series.

Alamo Game Engine is a game engine developed by Petroglyph, used to create Star Wars: Empire at War and Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption.

Star Wars: Empire at War is a 2006 real-time strategy ( RTS ) game developed by Petroglyph Games and published by LucasArts.

LucasArts said that the newly formed Petroglyph Games would be developing an original 3-D game engine, entitled Alamo for Star Wars: Empire at War and that the game would support online battles for up to eight players.

The volcanoes are visible from everywhere on the island, and life on Ometepe revolves closely around them.

Ometepe Island is generally included within the archaeological area of “ Greater Nicoya ,” which also encompasses the Rivas area on the lake shore and descends into Costa Rican Nicoya Peninsula.

The Ceramic Type " Ometepe Red Slipped-Incised " is found on Ometepe Island.

Many of the petroglyphs on Ometepe contain spirals, and “ meander ” across the rock face.

Some of the unusual formations seen within the petroglyphs on Ometepe include seats or steps carved into boulders, ovals, and big grooves.

The Ometepe Biological Field School is situated on the Maderas side of the island.

It rains often on Ometepe Island, so a slippery climb is likely.

It is the second largest city on the island of Ometepe.
