* August 30, 2002 — The museum opened its second collection: Art Through the Ages: Masterpieces of Painting from Titian to Picasso.

Algeria has always been a source of inspiration for different painters who tried to immortalize the prodigious diversity of the sites it offers and the profusion of the facets that passes its population, which offers for Orientalists between the 19 < sup > th </ sup > century and the 20 < sup > th </ sup > century, a striking inspiration for a very rich artistic creation like Eugène Delacroix with his famous painting women of Algiers in their apartment or Etienne Dinet or other painters of world fame like Pablo Picasso with his painting women of Algiers, or painters issued from the Algiers school.

* 2007 – The painting Portrait of Suzanne Bloch ( 1904 ), by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, is stolen from the São Paulo Museum of Art, along with O Lavrador de Café by the major Brazilian modernist painter Candido Portinari.

In the 1930s and 1940s, the Nazis labeled Munch's work " degenerate art " ( along with Picasso, Paul Klee, Matisse, Gauguin and many other modern artists ) and removed his 82 works from German museums.

These " modernist " landmarks include the atonal ending of Arnold Schoenberg's Second String Quartet in 1908, the expressionist paintings of Wassily Kandinsky starting in 1903 and culminating with his first abstract painting and the founding of the Blue Rider group in Munich in 1911, and the rise of fauvism and the inventions of cubism from the studios of Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and others in the years between 1900 and 1910.

The 1940s in New York City heralded the triumph of American abstract expressionism, a modernist movement that combined lessons learned from Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, surrealism, Joan Miró, cubism, Fauvism, and early modernism via great teachers in America like Hans Hofmann and John D. Graham.

Picasso showed a passion and a skill for drawing from an early age.

Picasso ’ s paintings and drawings from this period frequently recall the work of Raphael and Ingres.

His use of the minotaur came partly from his contact with the surrealists, who often used it as their symbol, and it appears in Picasso ’ s Guernica.

Devoting his full energies to his work, Picasso became more daring, his works more colorful and expressive, and from 1968 through 1971 he produced a torrent of paintings and hundreds of copperplate etchings.

Only later, after Picasso ’ s death, when the rest of the art world had moved on from abstract expressionism, did the critical community come to see that Picasso had already discovered neo-expressionism and was, as so often before, ahead of his time.

Since Picasso left no will, his death duties ( estate tax ) to the French state were paid in the form of his works and others from his collection.

The first of these releases came in 1976 when Beserkley compiled a posthumous LP from the first two demo sessions produced by Cale and Mason ; issued on Beserkley's Home of the Hits subsidiary, the album was simply titled The Modern Lovers and included celebrated tracks such as " Roadrunner ", " She Cracked ", and " Pablo Picasso ".

According to Cooper there was " Early Cubism ", ( from 1906 to 1908 ) when the movement was initially developed in the studios of Picasso and Braque ; the second phase being called " High Cubism ", ( from 1909 to 1914 ) during which time Juan Gris emerged as an important exponent ; and finally Cooper referred to " Late Cubism " ( from 1914 to 1921 ) as the last phase of Cubism as a radical avant-garde movement.

These works form the core of the immense and representative collection of the Musée Picasso in Paris.

Initially located in the Hôtel de Juigné ( now Hôtel Salé and home to the Musée Picasso ), it was transferred to rue Montgolfier in 1884, where it stayed until 1969.

There were major retrospective shows at the ICA in 1951, the Tate in 1982, the Musée Picasso, Antibes, France in 1998, and the Dulwich Picture Gallery in 2005.

The Musée Picasso is an art gallery located in the Hôtel Salé in rue de Thorigny, in the Marais district of Paris dedicated to the work of the artist Pablo Picasso ( 1881-1973 ).

The Hotel Salé was selected for the Musée Picasso after some contentious civic and national debate.

The Musée Picasso contains more than 3000 different works of art by Pablo Picasso including drawings, ceramics, sculptures in wood and metal, and paintings.

Juan Gris, a new addition to the Salon scene, exhibited his Portrait of Picasso ( Art Institute of Chicago ), while Metzinger's two showings included La Femme au Cheval ( The Rider, Woman with a horse ) 1911-1912 ( Statens Museum for Kunst, National Gallery of Denmark ).

In 2002, the National Gallery of Canada staged a major exhibition of his work, giving Thomson the same level of prominence afforded Picasso, Renoir, and the Group of Seven in previous years.

In 1944, he was granted the Premio Nacional de Pintura (" National Prize of Painting "), receiving a great homage with participation by Pablo Picasso, Gregorio Marañón, Pablo Neruda, Lipschitz, Braque, and Ozenfant.

Ridout's Three Pictures of Picasso, originally written for the National Youth Orchestra, was performed by the LSSO at a De Montfort Hall concert conducted by Rudolf Schwarz in 1964 in the presence of the composer.

Other works of Picasso's African Period include the Bust of a Woman ( 1907, in the National Gallery, Prague ); Mother and Child ( Summer 1907, in the Musée Picasso, Paris ); Nude with Raised Arms ( 1907, in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid, Spain ); and Three Women ( Summer 1908, in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg ).

Nevertheless, Prokofieff was much influenced by Paris during the Twenties: the Paris which was the artistic center of the Western World -- the social Paris to which Russian aristocracy migrated -- the chic Paris which attracted the tourist dollars of rich America -- the avant-garde Paris of Diaghileff, Stravinsky, Koussevitzky, Cocteau, Picasso -- the laissez-faire Paris of Dadaism and ultramodern art -- the Paris sympathique which took young composers to her bosom with such quick and easy enthusiasms.

Paris at this time hosted many expatriate writers: Ezra Pound, W. B. Yeats, Ernest Hemingway ; and artist Pablo Picasso.

After his death, Pablo Picasso, fascinated with Jarry, acquired his pistol and wore it on his nocturnal expeditions in Paris, and later bought many of his manuscripts as well as executing a fine drawing of him.

In Paris, Gris followed the lead of another friend and fellow countryman, Pablo Picasso.

Picasso met Fernande Olivier, a model for sculptors and artists, in Paris in 1904, and many of these paintings are influenced by his warm relationship with her, in addition to his increased exposure to French painting.

* May 18 – Sergei Diaghilev, James Joyce, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Proust and Igor Stravinsky dine together in Paris, at the Majestic hotel, their only joint meeting.

The first organized group exhibition by Cubists took place at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris during the spring of 1911 in a room called ‘ Salle 41 ’; it included works by Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Fernand Léger, Robert Delaunay and Henri Le Fauconnier, yet no works by Picasso and Braque were exhibited.

Prior to 1914, Picasso, Braque, Gris and Léger ( to a lesser extent ) gained the support of a single committed art dealer in Paris, Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, who guaranteed them an annual income for the exclusive right to buy their works.
