The Polish Home Army conducted a regular campaign of assassinations against top Nazi German officials in occupied Poland.

The Polish population was oppressed, with many former officials and others considered potential enemies by the Nazis being imprisoned or executed, including at the notorious Fort VII concentration camp in Poznań.

In February 2009, the Polish paper Polska wrote that over one third of the Federation top officials were former Nazi activists, and based this on an article published by the German magazine Der Spiegel in 2006.

Thus the Masurian population in 1890, 143, 397 were reported by German officials as having German as their language ( either primary or secondary ), 152, 186 Polish, and 94, 961 Masurian.

A center of such " unverified " Masurians was the district of Mragowo ( Sensburg ), where in early 1946 out of 28, 280 persons 20, 580 were " unverified ", while in October 16, 385 still refused to adopt Polish citizenship.

Lithuania vigorously contested the Polish annexation of Lithuania, and refused diplomatic relations with Poland.

On August 5, 1772, the occupation manifesto was issued, much to the consternation of a country too exhausted by the endeavors of the Confederation of Bar to offer successful resistance ; nonetheless several battles and sieges took place, as Polish troops refused to lay down their arms ( most notably, in Tyniec, Częstochowa and Kraków ).

But the Polish bishop protested against the agreement and the Holy See also refused to ratify it.

The Germans encouraged such registration, in many cases forcing it or subjecting Polish Germans to terror assaults if they refused.
