This was known as Butskellism, after the almost identical Keynesian policies of Rab Butler on behalf of the Conservatives, and Hugh Gaitskell for Labour.

Though he voted for the Labour Party in their 1945 landslide victory, because he wanted to punish the Conservative Party for the Munich agreement, after the war he joined the Conservatives and worked for the Conservative Research Department under Rab Butler, where his colleagues included Iain Macleod and Reginald Maudling.

At a meeting of the 1922 committee on 22 November, Rab Butler made a speech appealing for party unity in the aftermath of the Suez Crisis.

The social and economic policies of the consensus appealed to the paternalism of one nation conservatism because they appeared to provide prosperity and alleviate social problems such as poverty and disease ; this was intellectually developed by the ' new conservatism ' movement, led by Rab Butler.

Rab Butler held the post in 1962 / 63 under Harold Macmillan, but was passed over for the premiership in favour of Alec Douglas-Home.

Whilst studying at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, he was Chairman of the Cambridge University Conservative Association in Michaelmas 1960, in which term he entertained both the Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and Home Secretary ( and de facto Deputy Prime Minister, although he did not hold the title until 1962 ) Rab Butler.

Sydney Butler ( daughter of Samuel Courtauld and wife of Rab Butler ) commissioned a glass and steel table and a set of stools for the dining room of her Smith Square house .... Bacon's Queensberry Mews studio was featured in the August 1930 issue of The Studio magazine, in a double page article entitled " The 1930 Look in British Decoration ".

Rab Butler called him " this strange and imposing figure — half unwordly saint, half cunning politician ".

Having lent his support to Rab Butler, and strongly opposed the successful candidacy of the Earl of Home ( later Sir Alec Douglas-Home ), Macleod ( along with Enoch Powell ) refused to serve under the latter as Prime Minister ( though he did return to the shadow cabinet under Home after the 1964 election ).

With his mentor Rab Butler as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Maudling worked to reduce taxes and controls in order to move from post-war austerity to affluence.

The Rab Butler Building

The Rab Butler building was opened in 1991 as the headquarters for the British Household Panel Survey.

Speakers lived mainly in the coastal towns of Jadera ( Zadar ), Tragurium ( Trogir ), Spalatum ( Split ), Ragusa ( Dubrovnik ) and Acruvium ( Kotor ), and also on the islands of Curicta ( Krk ), Crepsa ( Cres ) and Arba ( Rab ).

He has also made guest appearances in the television series The Bill, the Rab C. Nesbitt episode " Father " as Rab's mentally ill brother Gash Sr. and the Still Game episode " Oot " ( AKA " Out "), where he played a hermit-type character adjusting to life in modern Glasgow, having remained in his house for over 30 years.

Popular Scottish television comedies such as Rab C. Nesbitt, Chewin ' the Fat, Still Game and Limmy's Show also provide reference material, and have themselves contributed popular new expressions to The Patter.

Arba was also the name of the Liburnian settlement in the modern city of Rab.

Rab is also known as a pioneer of naturism after the visit of King Edward VIII and Mrs Wallis Simpson.

She also made a special appearance in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

The series is also known for its uncompromising use of Glaswegian accents and dialect, and its technique of breaking the fourth wall by frequently having Rab address the viewer directly.

The show was produced and directed by Colin Gilbert who was also working with Fisher on Rab C. Nesbitt.

Joseph Jacobs, in the Jewish Encyclopedia article mentioned, notes that the transition from the triennial to the annual reading of the Law and the transference of the beginning of the cycle to the month of Tishri are attributed by Sándor Büchler to the influence of Abba Arika, also known as " Rab ," or " Rav ," ( 175 – 247 CE ), a Jewish Talmudist who lived in Babylonia, and who established at Sura the systematic study of the rabbinic traditions, which, using the Mishnah as text, led to the compilation of the Talmud:

A portion of the Kvarner Bay, located between Cres, Krk, Rab and Pag is also called Kvarnerić ( literally " little Kvarner ") or or, and the portion east of Krk and Rab is called Senj Channel.

Reginald " Reggie Rockstone " Osei also began to craft this art form with producers Mike Cooke, Rab Bakari, Zapp Mallet and Coal house.

It was also held for many years by former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rab Butler.
