Ramanuja was inspired by the Holy Hymns of the Alwars singing the glory of the Lord of the Seven Hills.

" Ramanuja was mightily pleased and embracing Ananthalvan, declared before the congregation, " Ananthalvan, You are truly the man ( Aanpillai ).

Today's typical concert structure was put in place by the vocalist Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar.

For example, in the tradition of Vedanta, the author of the Sutra was Veda Vyasa and the commentators were Adi Shankara, Ramanuja and Madhva ( each of whom eventually set up sub-schools within Vedanta ).

Robert Lester says that the word “ Ayyangaar ”, an alternate transliteration, was first used by Kandhaadai Ramanuja Ayyangaar of Tirupathi around 1450 AD.

Legend has it that the parents of the Sri Vaishnava saint, Ramanuja came to the temple and prayed to the Lord for a son and eventually the saint was born.

It is also believed that the Ramanuja is none other than Parthasarathy himself who was born to revive Vishishtadvaita.

Though she has performed since childhood, it was Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar who advised her to turn into a professional musician, when he heard her sing as an 18 year old.

Although belonging to the Ramanuja ( Shrivaishnav ) Sampradaya, he was one of the foremost disciples to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Śrī Ramanuja ( traditionally 1017 – 1137, also known as Śrī Ramanujacharya, Udayavar, Ethirajar ( Yatiraja ), Emberumannar, Lakshmana Muni ) was a theologian, philosopher, and scriptural exegete.

However, the unusual length and roundness of this lifetime has led scholars to propose that Ramanuja was born 20 – 60 years later, and died as many as 20 years earlier than the traditional dates.

The province of Canara seems to have been under the sway of Vishnu Vardhana, the great Vaishnava King who was converted by Sri Ramanuja.

Current scholars have demonstrated with a high degree of clarity that Nimbarka and his immediate disciple Shrinivasa flourished well before Ramanuja, and that Shrinivasa was a contemporary, or just after Sankaracarya.

It has been argued that Ramananda was initiated in the Ramanuja sect.

This tradition which uses the language of physical love to describe spiritual love, was a reflection of a key turn in Hinduism, initiated by Ramanuja in the 11th century which advocated an individual self realization through direct love.

He was the disciple of Swamy Sri Kidambi Appullar alias Sri Aathreya Ramanujachariar who comes in the lineage starting from Sri Ramanuja with Sri Thirukurugai Piran Pillan alias Sri Kurugesar, Sri Kidambi Aachan, Sri Aathreya Ramanujar, Sri Aathreya Rangarajachariar and many in the order.

It is widely revered as Swamy is the incarnation of Baghavath Ramanuja to once again reform the Vaishnavism and to give the world about its elaborated Treatises. He was named " Venkatanatha " and belonged to the Vishwamithra gothra ( lineage ).

He was educated and trained by a scholarly maternal uncle of his, Kidambi Appullalar who was a direct disciple of Nadadoor Ammal ( Grand Nephew of Ramanuja ).

Swami Vedanta Desika was the brightest star in the firmament of Visishtadvaita next only to Bhagavad Ramanuja.

The Archa murthi of Hayagriva which was originally worshipped by Goddess Saraswati and handed over by her to Bhagavad Ramanuja was being subsequently worshipped by Pillaan and Pundarikaaksha.

Annamayya was educated in this system of Ramanuja by Sri Sathagopa Yateendra of the Ahobila matham.

The case of Democritus is different from the case of, for example, Epimenides of Crete ( 7th, 6th centuries BC ), who is said to have lived 154, 157 or 290 years, as has been said about countless elders even during the last centuries as well as in the present time. The philosopher and theologian Ramanuja lived from 1017CE to 1137 CE. His body is said to be not perished and kept at Sri Ranganather temple, Trichy district, Tamilnadu India as exhibit These cases are not verifiable by modern means.

There are shrines for Vedhavalli Thayaar, Ranganatha, Rama, Gajendra Varadharaja Swamy, Narasimha, Andal, Anjaneya, Alvars, Ramanuja, Swami Manavala Mamunigal and Vedanthachariar.

There are also festivals for Sri Ramanuja ( April – May ) and Sri Manavalamamunigal ( Oct-Nov ) besides festivals for Alwar and Acharyas.

* Agnihotram Ramanuja Tatachariar ( 1907 – 2008 ), renowned vedic scholar, and recipient of two national awards for his contribution to Vedic studies and Sanskrit literature.

Ramanuja, the main proponent of Visishtadvaita philosophy contends that the Prasthana Traya (" The three courses ") i. e. Upanişads, Bhagavad Gītā, and Brahma Sūtras are to be interpreted in way that shows this unity in diversity, for any other way would violate their consistency.

Hemmige is also connected with many of the Vishistadvaita saints starting with Ramanuja who stayed her for ten days on his way to Talakad.

Andavan Ashram ( Mutt ) has a connection with Hemmige from the days of Periya Andavan, Chinna Andavan, KaTAndethi Andavan ( Srinivasa Ramanuja Maha Desikan ), Nam Andavan, Thembarai Andavan, Akkur Andavan, ThiruKudanthai Andavan who all visited Hemmige for some time and did the Mangala Sasnam of Varadharajar at Sri Varadharaja Swamy Temple.

Sivadvaita is very much akin to Vishishtadvaita of Ramanuja, except for the role of Vishnu being taken by Shiva.

After becoming the " Acharya " in the Ramanuja tradition, Swami Desikan left for Thiruvahindhipuram ( near Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu ), as per the orders of his Guru Swamy Kidambi Appullar and spent some years there meditating on Garuda and had the darshan of Lord Hayagriva, from then on, Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva became his personal deity.

Before leaving this world, he arranged for the continuance of the " Guru Parampara " by initiating his primary disciple, Brahmatantraswatantra Swami, and his son, Kumara Varada Desikan into the Acharya tradition, the many disciples of whom still continue the Ramanuja tradition through various ashrams and mutts.

Vadakalai sect of Sri Vaishnavites consider that " No writer among the followers of Ramanuja fought for the rightful place for Divya Prabandhams as did Swami Desika " where as Thennacharya sect of Sri Vaishnavites consider Sri Manvala Mamunigal in equal reverence.

The Salutary Verses are sung in the Temples to ensure that these temples and the practices as established by the Aacharyas and Sri Ramanuja would be followed for ever.

But it is for only Swamy Ramanuja and Swamy Vedata Desika, this Thirunamam is apt, as only these two great personalities lived in this material world for one full century and continuously practised and preached the Vishishtadvaita and have set the ideal models for a highly elevated living for the human beings.

During the 11th century AD Ramanuja, a founder of Sri Vaishnava traditions of Vaisnavism had established the Pancharatra system of Vaisnavism for his followers and refuted the philosophy of Adi Sankara.

Around this time, a branch of the Sri ( Ramanuja ) Sampradaya known as the Ramanandi sect, in the court of the king Sadacari Raja at Jaipur, Rajasthan, complained that as the Gaudiya Vaisnavas had no commentary on the Vedanta Sutra, they were not qualified to worship the Deity and therefore the worship should be turned over to the Sri Sampradaya.

Narendra and other members of the Math spent their time in meditation, discussing the philosophies and teachings of spiritual teachers including Ramakrishna, Adi Shankara, Ramanuja, and Jesus Christ.

On the other hand, Dr. S A A Rizvi assigns the date of Circa 1130-1200 AD But Jadunath Sinha, has counted him as a 13th century philosopher, and Dr. Tarachand has held him to be a younger contemporary of Ramanuja.

Furthermore, Ramanuja believes that Vishnu wishing to do a favour to those who are resolved on acting so as fully to please Him, engenders in their minds a tendency towards highly virtuous actions, such as means to attain to Him ; while on the other hand, in order to punish those who are resolved on lines of action altogether displeasing to Him, He engenders in their minds a delight in such actions as have a downward tendency and are obstacles in the way of the attainment of God.
