Powell County is home to Natural Bridge State Park and the Red River Gorge Geologic Area, two of Kentucky's most important natural areas and ecotourism destinations, as well as Pilot Knob State Nature Preserve.

Ironically, the tracks along Maryland Avenue ran over the Long Bridge to Virginia, and the tracks along Virginia Avenue went east into Maryland ( see Landover Subdivision ).
CSX operates it, along with the old connection to the New York Central main line, and the connection to the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge and Michigan Central Railway Bridge ( via the old Rochester, Lockport and Niagara Falls Railroad ), as their Niagara Subdivision.
Its south end is at the Buffalo Terminal Subdivision ; its north end is near the Canadian border at the Whirlpool Bridge.
