Besides the UU, Wizard magic is known to be taught at Bugarup University in Fourecks ( Archchancellor, Bill Rincewind ) and Krull University in the secretive nation of Krull, as well as the recently-established Braseneck College in Pseudopolis.

Rincewind is apparently the only wizard who still remembers the Librarian's name, but has agreed not to tell anyone.

Prior to receiving these titles, Rincewind held the post of Assistant Librarian, but it is unclear whether or not he retains the office.

The story opens weeks after the events of Interesting Times, in which Rincewind is magically transported to the continent of Xxxx ( aka Fourecks, so named because no one has any clue what its real name is ) due to a miscalculation made by the Unseen University wizards.

Scrappy explains to Rincewind that he is fated to bring back " The Wet ," meaning the rain, and that he is the reason for the eons-long drought.

The hat, having been worn on the heads of hundreds of Archchancellors has gained a kind of sentience and is able to enlist both Conina and Rincewind to take it to Al Khali, far away from Ankh Morpork and the University.

Rincewind is thrown into the snake pit, where he meets Nijel " the Destroyer " a barbarian hero who has been on the job for three days and wears wooly underwear because he promised his mother he would.

Rincewind eventually convinces Coin to throw the staff away but the power of Coin's father contained within is channelled against that of his son.

The main character is an incompetent and cynical wizard named Rincewind.

Rincewind and Twoflower are controlled by the Lady, and is pitted against the champions of Zephyrus, the god of slight breezes, Fate and Offler the Crocodile God, in the game supervised by Blind Io.

Rincewind manages to escape while the tree-nymphs try to kill him and is reunited with the tourist.

After winning a fight against them, Rincewind is able to read all eight spells aloud ; whereupon the eight moons of the red star crack open and reveal eight tiny world-turtles that follow their parent A ' Tuin on a course away from the star.

Published in 1987, it is the third novel in the Discworld series and the first in which the main character is not Rincewind.

The Archchancellor of the local magic college is named Bill Rincewind, possibly a relation of Unseen University's Professor of Cruel and Unusual Geography and trained coward.

Rincewind is also reputed for being able to solve minor problems by turning them into major disasters.

He has also appeared in situations where characters are in mortal peril ; for example, Death has appeared before Rincewind on numerous nearly-fatal occasions.

Despite his general lack of emotion, the Auditors of Reality are one of the few things actually capable of angering him ; he also gets angry upon hearing of Rincewind ( In Eric for example, his eyes turn red at the mention of Rincewind ).

In 1996, he reprised his role as Rincewind for the game's sequel, and composed and sang its theme song, " That's Death ".

While in his first year at the University, Rincewind tried to open the Octavo for a bet.

The people of Bugarup are enthusiastic for Rincewind, since they regard sheep thieves as folk heroes and encourage him to escape, while not actually allowing him to.

When they emerge, Rincewind can see the ethereal outlines of the wizards ( who were trapped, frozen in time, for thirty thousand years in the brewery ).

Later, Hrun agrees to travel with and protect Twoflower and Rincewind in exchange for Heroic pictures of him from Twoflower's magical picture box.

Consequently, several orders of wizards try to capture Rincewind, led by Trymon, a former classmate of Rincewind's, who wishes to obtain the power of the spells for himself.

Da Quirm tells Rincewind about the terrible fate the Tezumen have planned for the Ruler of the World, on whom they blame all life's misfortunes.

Rincewind and Eric are taken to Lavaeolus, the man who built the horse — having sent the horse in as a decoy so that he and his men could sneak in around the back while their enemies waited around the horse for them to come out — who tells them off for spoiling the war.

Rincewind and Eric are left on the newly formed world, with the realization that " to live forever " means to live for all time, from start to finish.

Leonard of Quirm, Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson, and Rincewind are selected for the trip.

Rincewind asks for a blue balloon and the Librarian asks for some library supplies ( and manages to refrain from bouncing Blind Io's head on the ground after Io calls him ' a monkey ').

In The Colour of Magic, Rincewind is brought before " the Patrician " but it is not clear whether this Patrician is Vetinari or his predecessor, Mad Lord Snapcase, or possibly even Homicidal Lord Winder, although the description of this Patrician does not seem to tally with that of Vetinari, as the Patrician in question is, for example, described as obese – a trait his two predecessors did possess, but which he lacks.

The portfolio includes entries for characters such as Lady Ramkin, Detritus, Mustrum Ridcully, the Death of Rats, as well as Rincewind running around in the Dungeon Dimensions.

Rincewind is believed to have had a hand in creating humans on the Discworld, as described in Eric, when he met the Creator and dropped an egg and cress sandwich ( with no mayo ) that the Creator had brought into being for him, into a rockpool.

Later television roles have included two appearances in Sky One's two-part adaptations of Terry Pratchett's fantasy novels, as Albert in Hogfather in 2006, and Rincewind in The Colour of Magic in 2008.

In March 2008, he starred as Rincewind in The Colour of Magic, and in the two part ITV drama Ghostboat.

Rincewind was portrayed by David Jason in the film adaption of The Colour of Magic and Pratchett said in an interview that he unwittingly took Rincewind's name from " Churm Rincewind ", a fictitious person referred to in early Beachcomber columns in the Daily Express .< ref >

A sea troll named Tethis was encountered by Rincewind in The Colour of Magic.

Rincewind began to say her name in The Colour of Magic but was cut short ; since it began with " L ", and in the Audio book version he pronounces " Lu " with a short u, along with all the other aforementioned clues and traits, it is commonly assumed she is Lady Luck.
