Past this intersection, it continues to County Route 617, where the name changes to Woodstown Road, before crossing County Route 538.

Past Pearl Street, Route 49 crosses County Route 670 ( Commerce Street / Buckshutem Road ) and Route 49 continues to the east on Commerce Street.

Past park facilities included two tennis courts and the old civic center which were located adjacent to city hall in the center of the city, two tennis courts located on Tarrant Road in the eastern edge of the city, a mini park located at the corner of Peterson Drive and Tarrant Road which contained an asphalt basketball court, and a softball field that was located behind the south end of Bragg Middle School.

Past the Garden Road interchange, Route 55 continues through farmland and woodland, passing to the east of Rudys Airport.

Past this intersection, the road continues alongside the wooded Musconetcong River, with residential and commercial development increasing past the Hazen Road intersection.

Past Little Falls Road, going north, there are still many businesses located along Route 23, including another CVS, a dog kennel, several hairdressers, a garden center, and an auto body shop.

Past the intersection with White Pine Road, Route 68 passes in between two large car lots.

Past the one-way pair, the route continues northeast on Princeton Post Road, which passes by numerous businesses.

Past this intersection, the Route 124 frontage road along Route 24 ends and the route becomes a two-lane undivided road called South Service Road that closely parallels the north side of Route 24, passing under the Morristown Line.

Past here, the road intersects the northbound direction of US 206 at Lawrenceville Road, and southbound US 206 splits from CR 583 to join with the northbound direction.

Past the County Route 579 intersection, the route parallels the Musconetcong River and intersects County Route 632 ( Asbury Road ), which provides access to westbound Interstate 78 / U. S. Route 22.

Past an intersection with Birch Tree Road, Route 181 turns eastward and northeastward, entering the Sparta Business District.
