* Australian singer Rolf Harris recorded a song called " The Court Of King Caractacus " in 1964 ; it was a hit in Australia and also charted in the US and UK.

Country and folk artists such as Tex Morton, Slim Dusty, Rolf Harris, The Bushwackers, John Williamson, and John Schumann of the band Redgum have continued to record and popularise the old bush ballads of Australia through the 20th and into the 21st century – and contemporary artists including Sara Storer and Lee Kernaghan draw heavily on this heritage.

The album was recorded on January 20, 1963 by an eleven-piece band made up of Mingus ( double bass, piano ), Jerome Richardson ( soprano and baritone saxophone, flute ), Charlie Mariano ( alto saxophone ), Dick Hafer ( tenor saxophone, flute ), Rolf Ericson ( trumpet ), Richard Williams ( trumpet ), Quentin Jackson ( trombone ), Don Butterfield ( tuba, contrabass trombone ), Jaki Byard ( piano ), Jay Berliner ( acoustic guitar ) and Dannie Richmond ( drums ).

Versions would occasionally tie in with the theme of the episode (" Guns-the Musical " had a Broadway-style version by Jodie Gilles as the conclusion, while the episode on Australian Comedy had the Doug Anthony All Stars performing it with the assistance of Barry Crocker ) but the most surprising of all was the version by Rolf Harris which eventually reached number 7 on the UK singles chart.

The first three volumes of the version known as the Lingtsang-Dege woodblock, which was composed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was published with a very faithful though incomplete French translation by Rolf Stein in 1956.
