A letter by Saint Ignatius of Antioch to the Romans, written in AD 106 says: " I desire the bread of GOD, which is the flesh of Jesus Christ.

Writing to the Christians of Smyrna, in about AD 106, Saint Ignatius warned them to " stand aloof from such heretics ", because, among other reasons, " they abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again.

She also employed other mystical ascetic works such as the Tractatus de oratione et meditatione of Saint Peter of Alcantara, and perhaps many of those upon which Saint Ignatius of Loyola based his Spiritual Exercises and possibly the Spiritual Exercises themselves.

This distinction of a separate ministry was formed in the early times of Christianity ; one early source reflecting this distinction, with the three ranks or orders of bishop, priest and deacon, is the writings of Saint Ignatius of Antioch.

St. Catherine was one of the most important saints in the religious culture of the late middle ages, and arguably considered the most important of the virgin martyrs, a group including Saint Agnes, Margaret of Antioch, Saint Barbara, Saint Lucy, Valerie of Limoges and many others.

There were contrasting view about his theological position: on the one hand, he was exiled three times under Arian emperors ; on the other, he was strongly opposed by those faithful to the memory of the staunchly pro-Nicene Eustathius of Antioch, whom the synod of Melitene deposed for his Homousianism ( Nicene trinitarianism ), which they considered a heresy, and by Saint Athanasius of Alexandria, the firm opponent of Arianism.

The second is that Saint Christopher was martyred in Antioch.
