According to the LDS Church, the vision teaches that God the Father and Jesus Christ are separate beings with glorified bodies of flesh and bone ; that mankind was literally created in the image of God ; that Satan is real but God infinitely greater ; that God hears and answers prayer ; that no other contemporary church had the fullness of Christ's gospel ; and that revelation has not ceased.

It relates the story of Job, his trials at the hands of Satan, his discussions with friends on the origins and nature of his suffering, his challenge to God, and finally a response from God.

The " sons of God " and Satan ( literally " the Adversary ") present themselves to God, and God asks Satan his opinion on Job.

As Job endures these calamities without reproaching God, Satan solicits permission to afflict his person as well, and God says, " Behold, he is in your hand, but don't touch his life.

" Satan, therefore, smites him with dreadful boils, and Job, seated in ashes, scrapes his skin with broken pottery.

It is only the reader of the book who learns of God's conversations with Satan ; Job himself remains unaware of the reason or source of his sufferings.

" The Satan ", meaning literally " the adversary ", appears in the prose prologue of Job, where he is not the devil, as he becomes in later Christian works, but one of the celestial beings who stand before God in the heavenly court.

Thus, Satan is personified as a character in three different places of the Tenakh, serving as an accuser ( Zechariah 3: 1-2 ), a seducer ( 1 Chronicles 21: 1 ), or as a heavenly persecutor who is " among the sons of God " ( Job 2: 1 ).

Satan is also identified as the accuser of Job, the tempter in the Gospels, the secret power of lawlessness in, and the dragon in the Book of Revelation.

His actions and name indicate he is the Satan, the ' Adversary ', but much more the Satan who appears in the book of Job with a function to fulfill under God than the Satan of later tradition who is the uttermost enemy of God.

Later, Mastema counsels God to test Abraham ( Jubilees 17: 15-16 ) just as Satan in the book of Job wants permission to test Job.

:* In the Book of Job, God allows Satan to plague His loyal servant Job with devastating tragedies leaving all his children dead and himself poor.

One of their number is " the Satan ", literally " the accuser ", who travels over the earth much like a Persian imperial spy, ( Job dates from the period of the Persian empire ), reporting on, and testing, the loyalty of men to God.

Notably, the modern popular use of mogui as ' demonic ' and gui as ' devils ' is somewhat a consequence of Western influences as Chinese-language biblical texts translate the Satan in the Book of Job and the Greek term ' diabolos ' as mogui.

Unlike the Biblical Book of Job, Satan's vindictiveness towards Job is described in the Testament as being due to Job destroying a non-Jewish temple, indeed Satan is described in a far more villainous light, than simply being a prosecuting counsel.

Job is equally portrayed differently ; Satan is shown to directly attack Job, but fail each time due to Job's willingness to be patient, unlike the Biblical narrative where Job falls victim but retains faith.

In their case, the god of this world ( Satan ) has blinded their unbelieving minds, that they should not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

The International Bible Students Association ( precursor to Jehovah's Witnesses ) identified Abaddon as Satan in the 1917 seventh and final volume of Millennial Dawn, to which Charles Taze Russell's name was attached ( although his authorship of the work is doubted ).

Satan, the spiritual driving force behind the beast and his armies, is imprisoned:

And he laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

However, the story is not yet quite finished: " When the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.

Judaism also does not have a notion of hell as a place ruled by Satan since God's dominion is total and Satan is only one of God's angels.

The religious dualism of Christianity is not a perfect dualism as God ( good ) will inevitably destroy Satan ( evil ).

Deicide has been banned from playing in several venues ( such as Valparaiso, Chile over a promotional poster featuring Jesus Christ with a bullet hole in his forehead ) and with various festivals such as Hellfest, after several graves had been spray-painted with " When Satan Rules His World ", which is a song from Deicide's 1995 album Once Upon the Cross.

On the reverse of the stone is another image parallel to it that has been described as Christ triumphing over Satan.

It also distinguishes between the world ( which is full of evil and under the dominion of Satan ) and the children of God ( who are set apart from the world ).

Jesus prays and meditates in the wilderness for forty days, and is tempted by Satan.

Justin Martyr, in the early 2nd century, mentions the " memoirs of the apostles ", which Christians called " gospels " and which were regarded as on par with the Old Testament, which was written in narrative form where " in the biblical story God is the protagonist, Satan ( or evil people / powers ) are the antagonists, and God ’ s people are the agonists ".

Murray's central thesis that images of the Devil were actually of deities and that Christianity had demonised these worshippers as following Satan, is first recorded in the work of Levi in the fashionable 19th-century Occultist circles of England and France.

The collective subconscious image of the horned aliens is what accounts for mankind's image of the devil or Satan.

The Soviet R-36 ( missile ) | R-36 ( SS-18 Satan ) is the largest ICBM in history, with a Throw weight of 8, 800 kg, twice that of Peacekeeper.

According to many accounts of Aggadah, unlike the Bible, it is Satan who is testing Isaac and not God.

In 1973, he said, " The worst sinners, according to Jesus, are not the harlots and publicans, but the religious leaders with their insistence on proper dress and grooming, their careful observance of all the rules, their precious concern for status symbols, their strict legality, their pious patriotism ... the haircut becomes the test of virtue in a world where Satan deceives and rules by appearances.

This development has been decried not only by adherents of the King James Only movement, but also by others, who hold that the King James Version is correct and that Isaiah 14: 12 refers to Satan under the name of " Lucifer ", or who hold that the reference to Satan is preeminent.

In the Roman Rite, the wording of the prayer of exorcism is: " Almighty and ever-living God, you sent your only Son into the world to cast out the power of Satan, spirit of evil, to rescue man from the kingdom of darkness and bring him into the splendour of your kingdom of light.

A track on the 2009 Art Brut album Art Brut vs. Satan called ' The Replacements ' features lyrics such as " I can't believe I've only just discovered The Replacements, how have I only just discovered The Replacements?

Rubin also claimed that the supposed temporary control taken by Satan over Muhammad made such traditions unacceptable to early hadith compilers, which he believed to be a unique case in which a group of traditions are rejected only after being subject to Qur ' anic models, and as a direct result of this adjustment.

The only other case technically won by Hutz was in " Treehouse of Horror IV ", where he represents Homer against Satan ( represented as Ned Flanders ).

Under each chin Satan flaps a pair of wings, which only serve to increase the cold winds in Cocytus and further imprison him and other traitors.

Although not specifically mentioned in the Quran, Muslims believe that Jesus and Mary were the only two children not to be touched by Satan at the moment of their birth, for God placed a veil between them and Satan.

Muslims believe that when God created Adam and Eve, He told them that they could enjoy everything in the Garden but this tree, and so, Satan appeared to them and told them that the only reason God forbade them to eat from that tree is that they would become Angels or become immortals.

The Prophet repeated his request for blessings upon Syria and Yemen, and again the onlooker shouted, “ And in our Najd ?” Finally, the Prophet replied, “ From that place will come only earthquakes, conflicts, and the horns of Satan .”

We judge that, in the prosecution of these and all such witchcrafts, there is need of a very critical and exquisite caution, lest by too much credulity for things received only upon the Devil's authority, there be a door opened for a long train of miserable consequences, and Satan get an advantage over us ; for we should not be ignorant of his devices.

Daub had become so hopelessly addicted to this perverse principle that he deduced not only Jesus as the embodiment of the philosophical idea of the union of God and man, but also Judas Iscariot as the embodiment of the idea of a rival god, or Satan.

The Christian world explained volcanoes as the work of Satan or the wrath of God, and only miracles could avert their wrath.

The first, created for the Church of Satan by Wayne West in 1970, was entitled " Missa Solemnis " ( originally published only in pamphlet form, later published in Michael Aquino's history of The Church of Satan ), and the second, created by an unknown author, was entitled " Le Messe Noir " ( published in Anton LaVey's 1972 book The Satanic Rituals ).

All three of these Satanic Masses ( the one by Coven and the two by the Church of Satan ) contain the Latin phrase " In nomine Dei nostri Satanas Luciferi Excelsi ", as well as the phrases " Rege Satanas " and " Ave Satanas " ( which, incidentally, are also the only three Latin phrases which appeared in the Church of Satan's 1968 recording, " The Satanic Mass ").

" Religious criticism has also expressed beliefs that the Ouija board reveals information which should only be on God's hands, and thus it is a tool of Satan.

In Hell, they are tormented by Satan ( voiced by Frank Welker ), made to face their own fears, and realize their only escape is to take Death's offer.

The key argument defending this interpretation is that demons had no need to mate with humans and turn them against God, but only a need to stop the entire human race all at once from having faith that it would be promised a savior from sin, which would guarantee the damnation of all humanity at once, thereby allowing Satan to fulfill his revenge against God for expelling him from Heaven.
