In literature, François Rabelais compares Gargantua's strength to that of Milo's in Gargantua and Pantagruel, and Shakespeare refers anachronistically to " bull-bearing Milo " in Act 2 of Troilus and Cressida.

Unlike the Induction and the main plot however, there is a recognised source for Shakespeare's sub-plot, first suggested by Alfred Tolman in 1890 ; Ludovico Ariosto's I Suppositi ( 1551 ), which Shakespeare used either directly or through George Gascoigne's English prose translation Supposes ( performed in 1566, printed in 1573 ).
As Gremio does have a counterpart in I Suppositi, Miller concludes that " to argue the priority of A Shrew in this case would mean arguing that Shakespeare took the negative hints from the speeches of Polidor and Phylema and gave them to a character he resurrected from Supposes.
It is so self-evidently repellent that I don't believe for a second that Shakespeare is espousing this.

Shakespeare and scenes
Several times since 1995, the American Shakespeare Center has mounted repertories that included both Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, with the same actors performing the same roles in each ; in their 2001 and 2009 seasons the two plays were " directed, designed, and rehearsed together to make the most out of the shared scenes and situations ".
He painted miniatures and altarpieces, landscapes and frescoes, historical and religious scenes, and subjects from the Bible, Greek mythology and Shakespeare.
