Bronski Beat were a popular British synthpop trio who achieved success in the mid 1980s, particularly with the 1984 chart hit " Smalltown Boy ".

The band's debut single, " Smalltown Boy ", the tale of a boy who was cast away by his family for being homosexual, was a hit, peaking at No. 3 in the UK Singles Chart.

It was a success, reaching Nº3 in the UK, equalling the chart achievement of " Smalltown Boy ".

The film Parting Glances ( 1986 ) included Bronski Beat songs " Love and Money ", " Smalltown Boy " and " Why ?".

Foster and Bronski Beat teamed up again in 1994, and released a techno " Tell Me Why ' 94 " and an acoustic " Smalltown Boy ' 94 " on the German record label, ZYX Music.

In 1998, the film Edge of Seventeen used the songs " Smalltown Boy " and " Why ".

In 2002, the US remake of Queer as Folk used the song " Smalltown Boy " in an episode.

In 2006 the signature keyboard riff from " Smalltown Boy " and part of the vocals from " Why?

In 2008, " Smalltown Boy " was used in the sexual comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Gothic metal band Paradise Lost also covered " Smalltown Boy " as a bonus track on the digi-pack version of the Symbol of Life album.

On the production side, Southend have produced local and international releases for Hoodoo Gurus, Paul Holden, Acid Babies, The Whitlams, Kim Salmon and Michal Nicholas as well as a remix collaboration with Sasha Vatoff of Vagen ’ s track " Buggin " and a cover of Bronski Beat's " Smalltown Boy " which appeared on Groovescooter Records ’ Re: fashioned 2.

Scottish lead singer Jimmy Somerville, openly gay on record since his previous band Bronski Beat released " Smalltown Boy " in 1984, performed a falsetto version faithful to Gaynor's disco take, right down to the pronouns " you know you love him more and more " and " never can say goodbye, boy ".

In 2008, Atrocity brought back the 80s once again, heavier than ever before, by delivering thrilling arrangements of well-known songs such as “ Smalltown Boy ”, “ The Sun Always Shines Of TV ”, “ Fade To Grey ”, “ People Are People ”, or “ Don ’ t You Forget About Me ”.

The album was nonetheless a personal high point for Partridge, who ranks songs such as "( The Everyday Story of ) Smalltown " and " Train Running Low on Soul Coal " amongst his best work.

He also wrote and produced a tribute to surf music entitled Surfonic Water Revival, which featured performances by Phil Keaggy, Smalltown Poets, Chuck Girard, Paul Johnson, Havalina Rail Co., Rick Altizer, Plumb, The Supertones, All Star United, Skillet, Silage, Rebecca St. James, The Insyderz, and others.

However some of the more modern artists record for the newer Norwegian labels Rune Grammofon, Jazzland Records and Smalltown Superjazzz.

After Kaja ( ex Kajagoogoo ) split up in 1986, Steve Askew set up a band called the Smalltown Elephants, he created the music concept, image and direction for the band and co-wrote all material.

Initial projects included albums from Big Tent Revival, Skillet, and Smalltown Poets.

To date, Ardent Records has released more than 35 albums by artists such as Skillet, Todd Agnew, Jonah33, Smalltown Poets, Satellite Soul, Clear, All Together Separate, Brother's Keeper, Justifide, Before You Breathe, NonFiction and Joy Whitlock.

Jaga Jazzist ( also known as Jaga ) is an experimental jazz band from Norway that rose to prominence when the BBC named their first album, A Livingroom Hush ( Smalltown Supersound / Ninja Tune ), the best jazz album of 2002.

Smalltown Supersound is an independent record label based in Oslo, Norway, and dedicated to new forms of jazz, rock and electronic music.

The debut album Zero For Conduct ( Smalltown America 2001 ) is a mixture of singer songwriter standards and post-hardcore exploration.

Larger tours required the addition of second guitarist and additional songwriter Cahir ( see also Fighting with Wire / Clearshot ) and the band retired to their home studio ( Straight To Tape ) to make second record Once Like A Spark ( Smalltown America 2003 ) again, critically well received the band continued an extensive touring schedule completing infamously a 60 date promotional tour of the UK in as many days.

On the 17th September 2005, the band played their first live show for almost six months, at the 2nd annual Smalltown America Records Charity All-Dayer at London's 93 Feet East venue, where they played a set that consisted almost entirely of new material.

Fonda was active in the Boy Scouts of America ; Teichmann reports that he reached the rank of Eagle Scout.

When Pete reached his senior year, he had already used up his four years of sports eligibility, so in the Spring of 1960, he joined the Class AA team sponsored by Frisch's Big Boy of Lebanon, Ohio in the Dayton Amateur League.

For their next two albums, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour ( 1971 ) – from which Hayward's " The Story in Your Eyes " was taken as a US Charting single ( No. 23 ), and Seventh Sojourn ( 1972 ) ( which reached No. 1 in the U. S .), the band returned to their signature orchestral sound which, while difficult to reproduce in concert, had become their trademark.

" Little Boy ", which reached # 92, was a Wall Of Sound production that was layered multiple times, which meant that the vocals were hard to distinguish from the music.

Growing up, Ellison was an active participant in 4-H and the Boy Scouts, where he reached the level of Eagle Scout.

Owing in part to the first VH1 broadcasts of Nick Read's documentary Warren Zevon: Keep Me In Your Heart, the album reached number 16 on the US charts, Zevon's highest placement since Excitable Boy.

Flair, however, reached elite status when he began referring to himself as " The Nature Boy " in order to incite a 1978 feud with the original " Nature Boy ", Buddy Rogers, who put Flair over in one encounter.

Boy from New York City and Other Hits ( a cover of the 1965 success by The Ad Libs ) reached the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 and won them the award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and " Until I Met You ( Corner Pocket )" earned them a Grammy for Best Jazz Performance, Duo or Group.

The Cub Scouting movement was founded by Robert Baden-Powell in 1916, nine years after the foundation of the Scouts, in order to cater to the many younger boys who had not yet reached the age limit for the Boy Scouts but who wanted to take part in Scouting.

The lead single, " Fell in Love with a Boy ", a reworking of the White Stripes ' 2001 " Fell in Love with a Girl ", reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart, as did the second single, a cover version of Sugar Billy's 1974 song " Super Duper Love ( Are You Diggin ' on Me )".

In adulthood, Turkana Boy might have reached 1. 85 m ( 6 ft 1 in ) tall and massed 68 kg ( 150 lb ).

His influence reached through the fashion, club and art worlds to impact, amongst others, Meadham Kirchhoff, Alexander McQueen, Lucian Freud, Vivienne Westwood, Boy George, Antony and the Johnsons, John Galliano, the Scissor Sisters, David LaChapelle, Lady Bunny plus numerous Nu-Rave bands and nightclubs in London and New York which arguably perpetuated his avant garde ideas.

Most recently in 2007, Tommy Boy recording artist Ultra Naté has released a dance-pop cover of " Automatic " that reached # 1 at the US Hot Dance Music / Club Play charts.

The following year in July, after being brought back into the public eye after winning Hell's Kitchen, Ellison released her second single, " Bye Bye Boy "-a song originally recorded by the Japanese singer Nanase Aikawa-which reached # 13 in the UK chart.

The follow-up, " 21st Century Boy " reached number 20 in the UK and, despite largely negative reviews, the album that followed, Flaunt It, again with Moroder at the controls, went top ten in the UK, and also reached number 96 in the US.

Divinyls also had Australian hits with cover versions of The Easybeats ' " I'll Make You Happy ", and Syndicate of Sound's " Hey Little Boy " (" Hey Little Girl " with the gender switched ) which reached No. 25 in 1988.
