Moxon continued to publish: in 1840 he published Robert Browning's Sordello, and in succeeding years works by Richard Monckton Milnes, Tom Hood, Barry Cornwall, Lord Lytton, Browning and Alfred Tennyson appeared.

He is the hero of the well-known poem Sordello by Robert Browning.

His reputation had still not recovered from the disastrous failure of Sordello fifteen years previously, and Browning was at the time comprehensively overshadowed by his wife in terms of both critical reception and commercial success.

This theme followed with great naturalness from Sordello ( 1840 ), in which the role in life of poets was analysed.

The depth of its philosophical, psychological and spiritual insight is a step up from anything Browning produced before or since, and the poem was almost universally hailed as a work of genius, restoring the pioneering reputation among the first rank of English poets which Browning had lost with Sordello nearly thirty years previously.

When Sordello discovers the great poet's identity, he bows down to him in honour.

As a resident of Purgatory, Sordello is able to explain the Rule of the Mountain: that after sunset souls are literally incapable of climbing any further.

Sordello da Goito or Sordel de Goit ( sometimes Sordell ) was a 13th-century Lombard troubadour, born in the municipality of Goito in the province of Mantua.

The real Sordello, so far as we have authentic facts about his life, hardly seems to justify these idealizations, though he was the most famous of the Italian troubadours.

Sordello is briefly referred to in Samuel Beckett's 1951 novels Molloy and Malone Dies.

Some critics have called this poem the least-read of all Browning's works, though unlike Sordello 31 years earlier, the poem's reception had no discernible damaging effect on his continued popularity and strong critical reputation.

It was built in the 1220s by Ranulf de Blondeville, 6th Earl of Chester, ( 1170 – 1232 ), on his return from the Crusades.

Dolbadarn Castle was built in either the 1220s or the 1230s by Llywelyn the Great, at the base of the Llanberis Pass, overlooking the lake of Llyn Padarn in North Wales.
