The Large Class I Pictish stone, with a rare carving of a flower, is called the Dunnichen Stone.

( John ) Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum ( March 25, 1867 – March 6, 1941 ) was a Danish-American born artist and sculptor famous for creating the monumental presidents ' heads at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, the famous carving on Stone Mountain near Atlanta, as well as other public works of art.

In 1924, a commemorative 50-cent coin was released that showed Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson ; money raised from the sale of the coins was combined with money raised by the Ku Klux Klan in order to fund the carving of a Confederate monument at Stone Mountain, the 1915 site of the founding of the second Ku Klux Klan.

Stone carving is an ancient activity where pieces of rough natural stone are shaped by the controlled removal of stone.

Stone carving that is done to produce lettering is more often referred to as lettering.

Stone carving differs from stone as in marble quarrying in that it is the act of shaping or incising the stone, whereas quarrying is the activity of acquiring useful stone, usually in blocks, from geological sources.
