The CBS Saturday morning series The New Adventures of Superman produced by Filmation Studios — as well as The Adventures of Superboy from the same animation house — featured the iconic " shirt rip " to reveal the " S " or Clark Kent removing his unbuttoned white dress shirt in a secluded spot, usually thanks to stock animation which was re-used over dozens of episodes, to reveal his costume underneath while uttering his famed line " This is a job for Superman!

In the origin story printed in Adventure Comics # 271 ( April 1960 ), young Lex Luthor is shown as an aspiring scientist who resides in Smallville, the hometown of Superboy.

With Superboy's aid, Luthor manages to cure Lena, allowing her to walk and think logically again for a brief moment, before he then quickly reverses the process, leaving Lena completely catatonic, and informs Superboy that so long as Superman is alive, he will never reveal how he did it.

Apparently, Luthor is no longer affectionate to the Boy of Steel after the event at his sister's house, and now seeing Superboy as a " failed experiment " due to using " a wrong alien DNA " to combine with his own.

The problem is that the Earth-Prime Superboy should not be remembered.

* Legion of Super-Heroes # 38: During the mourning of Superboy, a statue of Supergirl is seen.

Superboy puts on a show with her where he uses his powers to make her seem superhuman ; during this contest, she is called Super-Girl.

Smallville is the setting of many Superboy comics, which depict the original Superboy ( Superman as a boy ) defending Smallville from various evils and occasionally, the young Lex Luthor.

In the earliest Golden Age Superboy comics, the name of Clark Kent's hometown is uncertain.

However, as of Superboy ( volume 1 ) # 2, Smallville's name is permanently identified.

Smallville is retroactively shown as the Golden Age Superman's childhood hometown as well, as seen in the " Mr. and Mrs. Superman " series in Superman Family, as well as in New Adventures of Superboy # 15-16 ( March – April 1981 ).

Smallville's police chief is Chief Douglas Parker, who in pre-Crisis stories is considered a close ally of Superboy.

A storyline late in the run of New Adventures of Superboy sees Smallville's town council propose building Smallville's first shopping mall, though the mall's construction is revealed out to have sinister ulterior motives.

In the Superboy story in Superman Family # 195 ( May-June 1979 ), Interstate 70 is shown as running through or near Smallville, as Lana and Clark drive along the highway.

* The Superboy TV series also places Smallville in Kansas, stating it is where Clark and Lana grew up.

In issue # 18 of Green Lantern Corps, there is a battle scene shown at the Croton Dam in which Green Lantern Sodam Yat, infused with the power of Ion, fights against Superboy Prime.

Pollard is noted for his short stature, which had him playing child roles well into his twenties ( including on Star Trek, where he played one of the inhabitants of the planet of children in the episode " Miri ") and resulted in a recurring role as the diminutive trans-dimensional imp Mister Mxyzptlk in two episodes of the Superboy television series.

One exception of the inmates is Mon-El, a Daxamite who arrived on Earth, but fell victim to his lethal sensitivity to lead and Superboy was forced to cast him into the Phantom Zone to keep him alive, where he remained until the time of the Legion of Super-Heroes when Brainiac-5 created a medication that allowed him to leave safely.

* Mon-El-A Daxamite youth who met Superboy on Earth and discovers he is acutely vulnerable to exposure to lead ( this is described in the comics as " lead poisoning ", though it is not the same as real-life lead poisoning ).

Lar Gand, known primarily as Mon-El ( and alternatively as Valor and M ' Onel ), is a fictional character in DC Comics ' universe who is associated with the Legion of Super-Heroes, Superboy, and Superman.

As the final act before his death, he used his powers to alter and absorb vast amounts of radiation capable of paralyzing Superboy.

The Justice Legion includes secondary members like the Dreamer ( the last precognitive of the dead world Naltor, who has a thoughtscreen in her forehead ), the " Wildflame " ( the comatose remains of the energy being Wildfire, involved in every successive generation of Legionnaires ) and Cris Kend, the Superboy of the 843rd Century — one thousand years in their past — summoned by Brainiac 417 to stop an apocalypse.

In the Time and Time Again saga ( 1991 ) it is shown that both Superman and the Legion still remember the Pocket Universe Superboy so the editorial mandate was basically being ignored within a year.

He was time-displaced in the 30th century where he saw various incarnations of The Legion of Super Heroes before being displaced again in present day Smallville where he encountered a still young and inexperienced modern day clone Superboy ( Kon-El ).

Unlike previous characters bearing the name, this Superboy is a clone created to replace the seemingly-dead Superman, rather than simply being an adolescent Clark Kent.

Arriving in the fifth dimension, he proclaims to Gsptlsnz that he has escaped an encounter with " The Beast " ( implying that the Fifth Dimension is aware of Superboy Prime, who is referred to as a being of pure evil ).

A noted example of this is a 1950s story featuring Superman encountering an alien being he thought might have been his long-lost brother ; this was reused in the early 1960s as a Superboy story introducing Mon-El.

In an attempt to resolve the paradox, a Superman / Legion story was crafted, explaining that a version of the Silver Age Superboy ( and all his supporting characters, including Pete Ross ) inhabited a " pocket universe " created by the Time Trapper, and that the Trapper had protected this universe from being destroyed in the Crisis.

* The Metropolis Kid, who hated being called Superboy, is a reckless teenage clone of Superman.

In the Wonder Girl Mini Series, the then living remaining members of Young Justice, consisting of Wonder Girl, Robin, Empress, and Arrowette ( Secret was absent due to her powers being gone and Superboy and Kid Flash had not yet been resurrected ), along with Hercules, teamed up to defeat Granny Goodness and her Female Furies.

Said story involved Justice Legion T, an 853rd Century trio of young heroes: Robin the Toy Wonder ( a robotic Robin ), Superboy OMAC ( One Millionth Actual Clone, a play on the classic OMAC character ) and Impulse ( a Speed Force-influenced energy being, presumably either personified by the spirits of previous persons who used the heroic name, or else the living embodiment of random thoughts lost in the Speed Force, but most probably a time misplaced Scout of the original Impulse ).

Superboy defeats Amazo by sending his fist through Amazo's head just when it returned from being intangible thus destroying it.

Later still, Perry's reporting skills earn more praise after being the first to discover that Superboy has moved to Metropolis from Smallville.

His initial appearance suggested that he was Ultra Boy with amnesia, but he was soon revealed to be Superboy, ( whose body was being possessed by the consciousness of the apparently dead Ultra Boy ), who was suffering from a form of amnesia brought on by his inadvertent disobedience to a post-hypnotic command implanted in his mind by Saturn Girl.

After stealing Miss Martian's abilities, Superboy discovers him shape-shifted into a clown resulting in Parasite's cover being blown.

After recovering from the Superclone's attack, Superboy learns from Dubbilex that Dr. Mark Desmond and Lex Luthor headed Project Match with the Superclone being the original with full Kryptonian DNA but unstable.

Donna, along with Kyle Rayner ( now called Ion ), leads the team to attack Alexander Luthor through his space rift, giving Nightwing, Superboy, and Wonder Girl the time needed to destroy Alexander's device, and save the two Supermen and Wonder Woman from being merged with their Earth-Three counterparts.

Donna, along with Superboy, Kid Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern ( Hal Jordan ) and several other resurrected heroes, began to be targeted by Nekron, the being responsible for the Black Lanterns.

Meanwhile back in the past Cyborg makes a deal with Skynet-leaving a message in a Terminator's skull about Superman's weaknesses and subsequently allying himself with a T-X sent back from the future to assist him -, while Supergirl, Superboy, and even Lex Luthor continue to protect Sarah and young John from wave after wave of Terminator cyborgs, the later models being specifically upgraded to cope with the Superman family.

After being ( accidentally ) involved a fight involving almost every DC hero and many villains at the opening of Guy Gardner's bar ' Warriors ', Rex later became attached to Hero Cruz ( also known as HERO ) sometime before he became a member of ' Superboy and The Ravers ', and lived with him in Metropolis.

After discovering that his hybrid clone /" son " Conner Kent ( Superboy ) was injured by Prime, Luthor contacts Robin and gives him the means to help Superboy recover.

Lex later sends Bizarro after the newly arrived " Superboy ", only for the creature to be defeated by Superman.

* Superman # 8: Superman was referred to mistakenly as Superboy ( the young Clark Kent from the Time Trapper's pocket universe ) by the Legion of Super-Heroes.

In Adventure Comics # 247 ( April 1958 ) by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino, Superboy was met by three teenagers from the 30th century: Lightning Boy, Saturn Girl, and Cosmic Boy, who were members of a " super-hero club " called the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Crafted by Bates and Cockrum, the feature proved popular and saw such events as the wedding of Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel in Superboy # 200 ( Feb 1974 ).

This story told the tale of the Legionnaire Reflecto ( only glimpsed during the " Adult Legion " stories in Adventure Comics ), featured villainy by the Time Trapper and Grimbor the Chainsman, and saw Superboy rejoin the team.

The crossover was the first of several attempts by DC editors to explain the origins and fate of Superboy and his history with the Legion, in light of the revisions to the DC Universe caused by Crisis on Infinite Earths that removed Superman's career as Superboy from his personal history.

In the crossover, the Legion's Superboy was revealed to have come from a parallel " Pocket Universe " created by the Time Trapper.

* The Elseworlds two-part limited series Superboy's Legion featured an alternative version of the Legion that was formed by Superboy.

The character was created by writer Otto Binder and artist George Papp as a " mirror image " of Superman and first appeared in Superboy # 68 ( 1958 ).

When rejected by the Legion, the Bizarro teen creates his own Bizarro version of the Legion, which Superboy eventually persuades him to disband.

* Bizarro appears in the Superboy series, played by Barry Meyers, and is, to date, the only live-action appearance of the traditional version of the character, complete with angular white features.

Meanwhile, Superboy is convinced that he will earn his freedom by bringing in Wonder Girl.

After the appeal of kid superheroes had been demonstrated by the success of Robin, the Boy Wonder and similar characters, Detective Comics reversed itself in late 1944 and started publishing a Superboy feature, in an effort to expand the Superman franchise by presenting a version of the character to whom younger readers could easily relate.

Once again, the Legion feature proved so popular that by Superboy No. 197 ( Sep 1973 ), the Legion had become the lead feature, and with the next issue, the title's only feature.

Following John Byrne's revamp of Superman, a new version of Superboy was introduced as a means of patching the Legion of Super-Heroes ' continuity, which was undermined by the removal of Kal-El's Superboy career.
