Swami Muktananda ( 16 May 1908 – 2 October 1982 ) is the monastic name of an Indian Hindu guru and disciple of Bhagavan Nityananda.

Swami Muktananda was the founder of Siddha Yoga.

He studied under Siddharudha Swami at Hubli, where he learned Sanskrit, Vedanta and all branches of yoga, and took the initiation of sannyasa, becoming Swami Muktananda.

Swami Muktananda often said that his spiritual journey didn't truly begin until he received shaktipat from the holy man Bhagavan Nityananda.

In 1966, Swami Nityananda gave Muktananda a small piece of land at Ganeshpuri, near Bombay on which Muktananda developed an ashram.

Swami Muktananda extended the ancient tradition of shaktipat initiation by bestowing spiritual initiation on tens of thousands of people throughout India and other countries.

In May 1982, Swami Muktananda installed Ms. Shetty ( now known as Gurumayi Chidvilasananda or Gurumayi ) and her brother Subhash Shetty ( now known as Mahamandaleshwar Nityananda ) as co-Gurus and spiritual leaders of Siddha Yoga.

Swami Muktananda died on October 2, 1982.

Swami Chidvilasananda has expanded the philanthropic work initiated by Swami Muktananda.

The SYDA Foundation, which is dedicated to protecting, preserving, and disseminating the Siddha Yoga teachings, offers a variety of courses and retreats throughout the year, including the meditation intensives first developed by Swami Muktananda in the 1970s.

Jagadguru Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi, the renowned spiritual teacher reckoned as the greatest karmayogi to uphold Sanatana Dharma since Swami Vivekananda drew inspiration from the Guru's life and teachings and popularised it through his long oratories across the length and breadth of Kerala. He can be regarded as a political successor of the guru who enshrined the guru's vision in the setting up of Hindu Aikya Vedi uniting all the Hindu organisations in Kerala under the aegis of a single organisation brushing aside caste distinctions and uniting the two major groups of Hindus in the state, respectively the savarna Nairs and Ezhavas. Swami Muktananda's spiritual teacher, Bhagawan Nityananda, has been widely regarded throughout India as a Siddha Guru and as an Avadhut since the mid-20th century.

In the field of religion, Huxley ’ s friend and spiritual mentor, the Vedantic monk Swami Prabhavananda, thought that mescaline was an illegitimate path to enlightenment, a " deadly heresy " as Christopher Isherwood put it.

In the book The Timeless Path, Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri, one of Amritanandamayi's senior disciples, writes: " The path inculcated by Amma is the same as the one presented in the Vedas and recapitulated in subsequent traditional scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita.

" Siddha Yoga " (" perfect " or " perfected " yoga ) is a Sanskrit term adopted by Swami Muktananda to describe the path of self-realization that he embarked on under the guidance of his spiritual teacher, the Indian saint Bhagawan Nityananda.

In 1888, Vivekananda's first destination was the city of Varanasi, where he met the learned Bengali writer, Bhudev Mukhopadhyay and the saint Trailanga Swami.

In a later interview, Swami Dayananda summed up the new courses ' design as follows: ' What would take a Sadhu in the Himalayas nine years to learn, the brahmacharis at Sandipany learned in two-and-half years.

In one such letter, he wrote to Swami Akhandananda, " Go from door to door amongst the poor and lower classes of the town of Khetri and teach them religion.

* Swami Vivekananda said that there are many incompetent gurus, and that a true guru should understand the spirit of the scriptures, have a pure character and be free from sin, and should be selfless, without desire for money and fame.

A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada translates Lord Krishna's divine words from Bhagavad Gita, " Be steadfast in yoga ( yoga-sthaḥ ), O Arjuna, perform your duty ( kuru karmani ) and abandon all attachment ( sangam ) to success or failure ( siddhy-asiddhyoḥ ).

On his return to Bombay from Rishikesh in 1968, Swami Dayananda was asked to start the new Brahmachari / ni training programme in Sandipany.

Balakrishna Menon took sanyas deeksha ( monkhood ) from Swami Sivananda on Mahashivratri day on February 25, 1949, and was thus given the name Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati-the one who is saturated in Bliss and pure Consciousness.

Attendants of Sri Ramana included Palaniswami ( from 1897 ), Kunju Swami ( from 1920 ), Madhava Swami, Ramanatha Brahmachari, Krishnaswami, Rangaswamy, Sivananda, Krishna Bhikshu and Annamalai Swami ( from 1928 ).

Maurice Frydman ( a. k. a. Swami Bharatananda ), a Polish Jew who later translated Nisargadatta Maharaj's work " I Am That " from Marathi to English, was also deeply influenced by Sri Ramana's teachings.

Prominent Hindus ( e. g., Swami Sadananda Maharaj ) from India have visited South East Asia for the purpose of exploring the Hinduism of these places.

According to Vedas, holy name of Vishnu is so powerful that one ( even outcaste or meat-eater as in ISKCON ) can become brahman ( dvija, twice-born, by qualification if he actually knows vedanta and Brahman, Vishnu ) by accepting initiation from bona-fide spiritual master ( like A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada ).

In 1984, the Government of India declared and decided to observe the Birthday of Swami Vivekananda ( 12 January, according to the English calendar ) as National Youth Day every year from 1985 onwards.

Swami Vivekananda's lectures and writings, deriving their inspiration from the Indian spiritual tradition and the broad outlook of his Master Sri Ramakrishna, are a source of inspiration and have motivated numerous youth organizations, study circles, and service projects involving youth.

The Home of Truth, which, from its inception as the Pacific Coast Metaphysical Bureau in the 1880s, under the leadership of Annie Rix Militz, has disseminated the teachings of the Hindu teacher Swami Vivekananda, is one of the more outspokenly interfaith of New Thought organizations, stating adherence to " the principle that Truth is Truth where ever it is found and who ever is sharing it ".

It was built in 1970 by the Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee in honour of the visit of the great spiritual teacher Swami Vivekananda to Shripada Parai during the month of December 1892 for deep meditation and enlightenment.
