The " anchor " store in The Centre is an Asda hypermarket, though there is also a smaller Tesco superstore further along the High Street which does not form part of The Centre.

Halstead is undergoing huge social change in 2012 as Tesco attempts to build a small supermarket on a site in the centre of the Town destroying the last open area which is not yet developed east of the High Street.

In addition, the area is also served by a large Tesco supermarket this has recently been joined by an Aldi facing it across St. Oswald Street.
