Like Alan Wilson, Duane Allman played a key role in bringing slide guitar into rock music, through his work with The Allman Brothers Band, specifically on the 1971 live album At Fillmore East and with Derek and the Dominos ' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album.

With Dickey Betts ' departure from the Allmans, Haynes came back full time to the band at the beginning of 2001 and has continued splitting his time between the Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule and for a period Phil Lesh and Friends and other re-formed Grateful Dead bands.

Allman sold partial songwriting credit to " Melissa " to Steve Alaimo in 1968 to get back to Los Angeles, California to complete contractual recording obligations.
