In January 2007, the Arboretum started offering a landscaping class for Spanish-speaking landscapers.

The Arboretum officially started in 1964 with about 90 species of eucalyptus.

The Arboretum first started as an idea in 1996, was formally dedicated in 1999, and now contains more than 2, 900 plants, including over 1, 100 trees and 1, 700 shrubs, that represent over 430 genera.

Slayton Arboretum officially began in 1922 when Mr. and Mrs. George A. Slayton donated 14 acres to Hillsdale College to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation.

On March 14, 1887, a Boston & Providence Railroad train consisting of a locomotive and nine passenger cars inbound from Dedham to Boston with over 200 passengers, was passing over a bridge at Bussey Street, in the current Arnold Arboretum, when the bridge collapsed causing the rear five cars to pile up on top of each other, killing twenty-three and injuring over one hundred.

Goethe founded California State University, Sacramento ( Sacramento State College at the time ), which in turn treated Goethe with the reverence of a founding father, appointed him chairman of the University's advisory board, dedicated the Goethe Arboretum to him in 1961, and organized an elaborate gala and ' national recognition day ' to mark his 90th birthday in 1965, when he received letters of appreciation-solicited by his friends at CSUS-from the president of the Nature Conservancy, then-Governor Edmund G. Brown, and then-President Lyndon B. Johnson.

The Arboretum was founded in 1872 when the President and Fellows of Harvard College became trustees of a portion of the estate of James Arnold ( 1781 – 1868 ).

leftOn October 17, 1999 the Arboretum was the site of a suicide or murder when Lissa Jackson Roche, the managing editor of Hillsdale College Press, was found dead of a gunshot wound after claiming that she and her father-in-law, the college's president, had been involved in a nineteen-year extramarital affair.

The Leila Arboretum dates back to 1922 when Leila Post Montgomery, widow of breakfast cereal magnate C. W. Post, purchased 72 acres ( 291, 000 m² ) of an old country club and donated the land to the City of Battle Creek “ to be laid out and improved as a public Arboretum ...”.

The Berthold Public school Arboretum was begun in the 1970s when the then science teacher, Tom Hove, and vocational agriculture teacher, Richard Debertin, combined efforts to make an arboretum on the school grounds.

The Arboretum was founded in 1972 when the Brainerd Landfill closed ; that original landfill site now supports a grassland.

The Friends of Mount Pisgah Arboretum was established in 1973 when it began to construct trails, build bridges, remove invasive species, and publish newsletters.

Carrier Arboretum is located at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, U. S .. Groundbreaking took place in April 1985 under direction of Dr. Norlyn Bodkin who is credited the first scientific botanical discovery along the Eastern Seaboard of Virginia since the 1940s, Trillium: Shenandoah Wake Robin, presently found at the arboretum.

Triploid varieties were first produced at the National Arboretum, Washington DC, by Dr. D. Egolf, resulting in plants that bloom lavishly, as they are sterile and set no seed ; Egolf varieties named for goddesses include the outstanding white ' Diana '.

A centerpiece of the Arboretum is the Heritage House, which was built in 1894 as the home and office of Fullerton's pioneer physician, Dr. George C. Clark.

Dr. Ned Friedman is the eighth and current Director of the Arnold Arboretum.

In 2006 the Arboretum began numerous research programs, continuing the tradition of research begun by Dr. Bartlett nearly a century earlier.

Dr. Cindy Johnson-Groh became Executive Director of the Linnaeus Arboretum in 2006, and in 2007 the Johnson Center for Environmental Innovation was added to the Interpretive Center.

The Brenton Arboretum was founded by Sue and J. C. ( Buz ) Brenton and their children, on land which was part of the original “ Home Farm ” acquired by Dr. James Brenton and his son, William Henry, soon after they arrived from Indiana in 1853 by covered wagon.

The Arboretum was created from land donated to the city by Dr. and Mrs. Walter Simmons, and has evolved from unimproved land to a nature walk.

The Arboretum was founded in 1947, by Prof. Frank J. Rimoldi and Dr. Roy Woodbury.

During this time the director of the Arboretum was Dr. Henry O. Whittier.

The Lynn R. Lowrey Arboretum, consisting of more than 4000 trees and shrubs ( giving birth to the legend that Rice has a tree for every student ), is spread throughout the campus.

Contemporary campus landmarks include the Main Quad and Memorial Church, the Cantor Center for Visual Arts and art gallery, the Stanford Mausoleum and the Angel of Grief, Hoover Tower, the Rodin sculpture garden, the Papua New Guinea Sculpture Garden, the Arizona Cactus Garden, the Stanford University Arboretum, Green Library and the Dish.

It was not until 1984 that landscape designer Russell Page created a suitable setting for them in a large meadow at the National Arboretum as the National Capitol Columns, where they are combined with a reflecting pool in an ensemble that reminds some visitors of Persepolis.

It has responsibility for the Arboretum at Kilmacurragh, County Wicklow, a centre noted for its conifers and calcifuges.
