Carl Barks ( March 27, 1901 – August 25, 2000 ) was an American Disney Studio illustrator and comic book creator, who invented Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck ( 1947 ), Gladstone Gander ( 1948 ), the Beagle Boys ( 1951 ), The Junior Woodchucks ( 1951 ), Gyro Gearloose ( 1952 ), Cornelius Coot ( 1952 ), Flintheart Glomgold ( 1956 ), John D. Rockerduck ( 1961 ) and Magica De Spell ( 1961 ).

He surrounded Donald Duck and nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie with a cast of eccentric and colorful characters, such as the aforementioned Scrooge McDuck, the wealthiest duck in the world ; Gladstone Gander, Donald's obscenely lucky cousin ; inventor Gyro Gearloose ; the persistent Beagle Boys ; the sorceress Magica De Spell ; Scrooge's rivals Flintheart Glomgold and John D. Rockerduck ; Daisy's nieces April, May and June ; Donald's neighbor Jones, and The Junior Woodchucks organization.

Porker soon lost his other riverboat to Blackheart Beagle and his sons, the first generation of Beagle Boys, a family of outlaws, and retired.

In some stories, Gyro's primary rival is Emil Eagle, although he is also antagonized by the Beagle Boys and Magica De Spell.

According to Barks, he intended to create her as another recurring antagonist for Scrooge, in addition to The Beagle Boys and Flintheart Glomgold.

She sometimes teams up with The Beagle Boys, her sometimes housemate Mad Madam Mim or her crush the Phantom Blot.

Magica makes a cameo appearance in the Darkwing Duck episode " In Like Blunt " along with the Beagle Boys and Flintheart Glomgold, among the bidders for the secret S. H. U. S. H.

Examples of such stories are Of Ducks and Dimes and Destinies, when she travels in time to steal the dime in the very same day Scrooge earns it and gives it back after realizing that by preventing Scrooge from owning the dime, she would turn it into a coin that never belonged to him, or A Little Something Special, when she teams up with Flintheart Glomgold and the Beagle Boys in a plan made by Blackheart Beagle.

She gives the dime back after realizing Scrooge wouldn't be the richest man on Earth after the Beagle Boys steal his money.

Glomgold is one of Scrooge's main rivals along with the Beagle Boys, Magica De Spell, and John D. Rockerduck, and also holds the title of being The Second Richest Duck in the World where Scrooge is the richest.

Magica De Spell teamed up with him and the Beagle Boys to get the Number One Dime.

To make things worse for Glomgold, Magica takes the Beagle Boys with her the Valley of Limpopo and they carry all they can of Flintheart's cash.

The previously unaffiliated Beagle Boys were now depicted as working for him on an occasional basis.

In the Disney series Darkwing Duck episode " In Like Blunt ", Glomgold makes a cameo appearance-along with the Beagle Boys and Magica DeSpell-as a bidder for the secret S. H. U. S. H.

Sometimes, Pete also teams up with other bad guys in the Disney universe, such as Scrooge McDuck's enemies ( the Beagle Boys and Magica De Spell ), Mad Madam Mim, Captain Hook, and the Evil Queen.

The money bin is the victim of repeated assaults by Scrooge's enemies who try to steal his money, such as the Beagle Boys, who are after the bulk of Scrooge's money, and Magica DeSpell, who is after Scrooge's " Number One Dime " ( the first dime Scrooge ever earned ).

In this story, the dime is so old that it has become thin as a razor blade and allows Scrooge to cut binding ropes and escape from the Beagle Boys.

The Beagle Boys are a group of fictional characters from the Scrooge McDuck universe.

Their introduction and first appearance was in Terror of the Beagle Boys, in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories # 134, although in this story they only appear in the last frame and have no lines.

The Beagle Boys were originally created by Carl Barks, and made their first appearance in the 10-page story The Terror of the Beagle Boys ( WDC # 134 ) that was first published in November 1951.

The Beagle Boys are usually depicted as a gang of about six to ten members, who are similar in appearance and personality, and without an established leader.

Their leader is usually Bigtime when Ma Beagle is not present.

On these occasions he usually lets his right-hand man Jeeves do the dirty work, but he also hires the Beagle Boys to do his dirty work for him from time to time.

* The Beagle Boys — The Beagle Boys show up occasionally, usually as guards of a passage or while kidnapping one of Scrooge's nephews.

A beagle's career with the Beagle Brigade usually lasts between six and ten years.

* In the early 1980s, Beau Geste was a recurring story arc in Charles Schulz's comic strip Peanuts, during which Snoopy was a leader of a squad of Legionnaires ( usually played by birds, Snoopy's " Beagle Scouts ") and Ft. Zinderneuf was Snoopy's doghouse.

* New lithium-ion battery technology-to be able to operate at lower temperatures, meaning less power wasted on heating-a possible 60 % capacity boost to that of Beagle 2

The ship on which Charles Darwin made the voyage which provided much of the inspiration for On the Origin of Species was named HMS Beagle after the breed, and, in turn, lent its name to the ill-fated British Martian lander Beagle 2.
