The Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In order to freely practice their Christian faith in accordance with the Lutheran confessions outlined in the Book of Concord, Stephan and nearly 1, 100 other Saxon Lutherans left for the United States in November 1838.

All ten institutions are named " Concordia "-- a reference to the Latin title of The Book of Concord, the collection of Lutheran confessions -- and all include professional church work programs as part of their curricula.
