The Buddha sometimes asked him to substitute for him as teacher and then later stated that he himself would not have presented the teachings in any other way.

The term " bodhisatta " ( Pāli language ) was used by the Buddha in the Pāli canon to refer to himself both in his previous lives and as a young man in his current life, prior to his enlightenment, in the period during which he was working towards his own liberation.

According to the scriptures the reason the Buddha himself gave was that the admission of women would weaken the Sangha and shorten its lifetime, and he laid down strict rules subordinating nuns to monks ( The Eight Garudhammas ).

In the Mahayana Buddhist tradition, it is believed that the drawing was designed by the Buddha himself in order to help ordinary people understand the Buddhist teachings.

Lewis Hyde remarks in The Gift that Christianity considers the Incarnation and subsequent death of Jesus to be the greatest gift to humankind, and that the Jataka contains a tale of the Buddha in his incarnation as the Wise Hare giving the ultimate alms by offering himself up as a meal for Sakka.

Tradition ascribes to the Buddha himself instruction on how to pay him homage.

In Nichiren Shoshu, Nichiren Daishonin himself is the Treasure of the Buddha ; the Mystic Law of Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo is the Treasure of the Law ; Nikko, who Nichiren Shoshu believe was Nichiren's successor and each of the successive High Priests are the Treasure of the Priesthood.

The Buddha himself expressly disavowed any special divine status or inspiration, and said that anyone, anywhere could achieve all the insight that he had.

However, Buddha said that the purity of his heart was so great that, " Should Ananda die without being fully liberated ; he would be king of the gods seven times because of the purity of his heart, or be king of the Indian subcontinent seven times.

Upon his return, the Buddha says, among other things, that Pasenadi is " a friend of virtue, acquainted with virtue, intimate with virtue ", while the opposite is said of the aggressor, King Ajatasattu.

Buddha said " Love all, so that you may not wish to kill any " This is a positive way of stating the principle of Ahimsa.

As the Buddha said according to the canonical scriptures:

In the Buddhist tradition, it is said that the Buddha compared these four truths to the footprints of an elephant: just as the footprints of all the other animals can fit within the footprint of an elephant, in the same way, all of the teachings of the Buddha are contained within the teachings on the four noble truths.

So the Buddha said that unless we understand this and see how pervasive dissatisfaction or duhkha is, it is impossible for us to start looking for real happiness.

During the rule of the 7th Kirat King Jitedasti, Lord Gautam Buddha is said to have come to the valley with his several disciples and to have visited holy places of Swayambhu, Guheswari, etc., and to have preached his religious teaching.

Buddha and his disciple Ananda are said to have visited the Kathmandu Valley and stayed for some time in Patan.

But before entering nirvana, the Buddha said his disciples should take the precepts as their teacher, so few ceremonies are held for partial precept undertaking.

" During the time of Gautama Buddha the city was called Ayojjhā in Pali and Ayodhyā in Sanskrit, though this city was said to be on the River Ganges ( Pheṇāpiṇḍūpama Sutta-SN 22. 95 ).

However, Buddha pointed out to them that they do not know the whole extent of the universe ( he said they have no knowledge of some of the highest heavens ), and further, the spiritual power of the Buddha was greater than the spiritual power of these gods who thought they created the world.

The Buddha said ( in DN1-the Brahmajala Sutta or The Net of Views ) that their view of being the creator of the world is a misconception, and that these Brahma-gods actually have a cause which lead their origination ( taking birth as a Brahma-god ).

In his hagiographic spiritual biography Li Hongzhi is said to have been taught ways of " cultivation practice " by several masters of the Buddhist and Daoist traditions, including Quan Jue, the 10th Heir to the Great Law of the Buddha School, a Taoist master from age eight to twelve, and a master of the Great Way School with the Taoist alias of True Taoist from the Changbai Mountains.

The attainment of nirvanic liberation ( mokṣa ), by contrast with empty or selfless phenomena, is said to open up a realm of " utter bliss, joy, permanence, stability, eternity ", in which the Buddha is " fully peaceful " and " immovable " ( acala ) like a mountain.
