The only high speed rail line ( though by most definitions, real high speed rail only includes speeds over 200 km / h ) in central-eastern Europe is the Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa ( CMK ), the Central Railway Route.

Both lines stop at Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza which was built as Central Union Terminal by the New York Central Railroad — along its Water Level Route — in 1950.

The First Transcontinental Railroad ( known originally as the " Pacific Railroad " and later as the " Overland Route ") was a railroad line built in the United States of America between 1863 and 1869 by the Central Pacific Railroad of California and the Union Pacific Railroad that connected its statutory Eastern terminus at Council Bluffs, Iowa / Omaha, Nebraska ( via Ogden, Utah, and Sacramento, California ) with the Pacific Ocean at Oakland, California on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay opposite San Francisco.

The linkage made these lines easier to protect and maintain than the original First Transcontinental Telegraph lines, which went over much of the original routes of the Mormon Trail and the Central Nevada Route through central Utah and Nevada.

The Pony Express from 1860 to 1861 was to prove that the Central Nevada Route across Nevada and Utah and the sections of the Oregon Trail across Wyoming and Nebraska was viable during the winter.

From there it roughly followed the Central Nevada Route to Carson City, Nevada before passing over the Sierras into Sacramento, California.

From Salt Lake City it generally followed the Central Nevada Route blazed by Captain James H. Simpson of the Corps of Topographical Engineers in 1859.

Upon return in early August, Simpson reported that he had surveyed the Central Overland Route from Camp Floyd ( Utah ) to Genoa, Nevada.

The Pony Express built many of their eastern stations along the Oregon / California / Mormon / Bozeman trails and many of their western stations along the very sparsely settled Central Route across Utah and Nevada.

In 1861 John Butterfield, who since 1858 had been using the Butterfield Overland Mail, also switched to the Central Route to avoid traveling through hostile territories during the American Civil War.

In 1861 the Transcontinental Telegraph also laid its lines alongside the Central Overland Route.

Several stage lines were set up carrying mail and passengers that traversed much of the route of the original Oregon Trail to Fort Bridger and from there over the Central Overland Route to California.

These combined stage and Pony Express stations along the Oregon Trail and Central Route across Utah and Nevada were joined by the First Transcontinental Telegraph stations and telegraph line which followed much the same route in 1861 from Carson City, Nevada to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Route 28 continues east as a four-lane undivided road through the downtown area of Westfield, crossing County Route 613 ( Central Avenue ).
