The Southern Rhodesia ( Annexation ) Order in Council 1923, section 3, provided that Southern Rhodesia " shall be known as the Colony of Southern Rhodesia " and the Southern Rhodesia ( Constitution ) Act 1961 and the Order in Council which followed it both referred to it as such.

The former English settlement of Rugby, Tennessee, promoted in the late 19th century as a settlement for the " second sons " of English nobility who did not receive hereditary peerages, is located on the Plateau above the Clear Fork valley ; swimming in its pools provided the " Rugby Colony " with an important recreational diversion.

She provided a bequest for one million dollars for the MacDowell Colony in her will.

The Old Colony Railroad and Fall River Railroad merged with a joint stock vote on June 20, 1854, forming the Old Colony and Fall River Railroad Company, which provided a two-pronged line from Boston to Plymouth and Boston to Fall River, splitting at South Braintree.

The acquisition of this line provided important connections for the Old Colony, such as with the Boston and Providence Railroad at Mansfield, the Boston and Albany Railroad at South Framingham and the Fitchburg Railroad at Fitchburg, among others.

Since the early 1970s, Amtrak has provided passenger service from South Station in Boston over the former Boston and Providence lines of the Old Colony Railroad.

Beginning in 1982, the Bay Colony Railroad provided freight service on various lines which the Commonwealth of Massachusetts had purchased from Conrail, including lines on Cape Cod and in Middlesex County.

Since 1999, CSX has provided freight service over several portions of the former Old Colony Railroad network, including lines in Taunton, Fall River, New Bedford and Leominster.

No direct connection was provided to the Old Colony Railroad or the New York and New England Railroad.

Today, the City of Greeley does not provide fire protection services, which are instead provided by the Union Colony Fire Rescue Authority and the major city complex is the " Union Colony Civic Center.

In 1964, the Secretary of Health again took administrative control and enforcement of rules and regulations over all the lands and waters of Culion Leper Colony as provided under Section 106 of the Revised Administrative Code.

Many of the colonists in the neighboring districts are descendants of members of the British German Legion disbanded after the Crimean War and provided with homes in Cape Colony ; hence such names as Berlin, Braunschweig, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Potsdam and Stutterheim given to settlements in this part of the country.

It used the trackage of the historic Old Colony Railroad, which provided service to the Cape, from New York City and from Boston, until 1959, when year-round passenger service had ended on Cape Cod.

The housing facilities are under the control of the Boston Housing Authority ( BHA ) and include West Broadway which was built in 1949 and occupies, West Ninth Street ( these three facilities are next to each other and commonly called D street ), Old Colony which was built in 1941, and Mary Ellen McCormack, which is the BHA's oldest development, being constructed in the 1930s.

Abramtsevo is now open to the public and tourists can wander along the many paths through the surrounding forest and cross the wooden bridges that served as an inspiration for the artists at the Abramtsevo Colony.

* the " Lost Colony " of Roanoke Island: In 1587, Sir Walter Raleigh recruited over 100 men, women and children to journey from England to Roanoke Island on North Carolina's coast and establish the first English settlement in America under the direction of John White as governor.

The establishment of Crown Colony rule resulted over the next few decades in the growth of a middle class of low-level public officials and police officers drawn from the mass of the population whose social and political advancement was blocked by the colonial authorities.

At the beginning, there was ambivalence in Nova Scotia, " the 14th American Colony " as some called it, over whether the colony should join the Americans in the war against Britain and rebellion flared at the Battle of Fort Cumberland and the Siege of Saint John ( 1777 )).

Stuyvesant became involved in a dispute with Theophilus Eaton, the governor of New Haven Colony, over the border of the two colonies.

Despite political complications that arose from time to time ( such as an ill-fated scheme by the British Colonial Office to enforce a confederation in Southern Africa in 1878, and tensions with the Afrikaner-dominated Government of Transvaal over trade and railroad construction ), economic and social progress in the Cape Colony continued at a steady pace until the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer Wars in 1899.

The Protectorate Ordinances ( passed in the Colony in 1896 and 1897 ) abolished the title of King and replaced it with " Paramount Chief "; chiefs and kings had formerly been selected by the leading members of their own communities, now all chiefs, even paramount ones, could be deposed or installed at the will of the Governor ; most of the judicial powers of the chiefs were removed and given to courts presided over by British " District Commissioners "; the Governor decreed that a house tax of 5s to 10s was to be levied annually on every dwelling in the Protectorate.

The reasons for the mass emigration from the Cape Colony have been much discussed over the years.

The claim that the National Guard is older than the nation itself, with over three and a half centuries of service, is based on the claim that the modern-day 101st Field Artillery Regiment, 182nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Engineer Battalion and 181st Infantry Regiment of the Massachusetts Army National Guard are directly descended from Massachusetts Bay Colony regiments formed over 375 years ago.

With the 1886 discovery of gold in the Transvaal, the resulting gold rush brought thousands of British and other prospectors and settlers from across the globe and over the border from the Cape Colony ( under British control since 1806 ).

* Mobile Suit Gundam Wing takes place in the After Colony ( AC ) calendar system, set after the foundation of the first space colony, where Earth firmly maintains repressive control over its colonies.

When the United Kingdom took control of the Cape Colony in 1797, they also took over Walvis Bay.

English forces captured the settlement in 1628 and turned it over to Plymouth Colony.

Key Colony Beach is reached over the Sadowski Causeway, which connects Key Colony Beach to Marathon, Florida on the east side of the city.

Originally an attractive feature of the landscape, the Quequechan has seldom been visible since it was covered over by cotton mills and the Bay Colony Railroad line in the 19th century.
