Blue Magic was formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1972 when former member of The Delfonics, Randy Cain brought singer-songwriter Ted Mills in to do some writing with the Philly-based WMOT production company and a short time later, the group Shades of Love, featuring Keith Beaton, Richard Pratt, Vernon Sawyer and his brother Wendell, came in for an audition.

The album also included a re-interpretation of The Delfonics ' " Ready or Not Here I Come ( Can't Hide From Love )" in their hit single, " Ready or Not ", which featured a prominent sample of Enya's " Boadicea " without the singer's permission.

Columbia Records also released the single " Didn't I ( Blow Your Mind This Time )" ( a cover of The Delfonics ' classic hit ), from the group's previously overlooked debut album.

For the next set of studio sessions, Weather Report added a new Brazilian percussionist ( Alyrio Lima ) and a new drummer-Chuck Bazemore of The Delfonics.
