The " Florida Keys for Katrina Relief " had originally been set for October 23, 2005, when Hurricane Wilma barreled through the Florida Keys on October 24, causing flooding and economic mayhem.

In January 2006, the Florida Keys had recovered enough to host the fundraising concert to benefit the more hard-hit community of Ocean Springs.

S. mahagoni grows on the West Indian islands as far north as the Bahamas, the Florida Keys and parts of Florida ; S. humilis grows in the dry regions of the Pacific coast of Central America from south-western Mexico to Costa Rica ; S. macrophylla grows in Central America from Yucatan southwards and into South America, extending as far as Peru, Bolivia and extreme western Brazil.

This has led to the black rat completely displacing many native species in Madagascar, the Galapagos, and the Florida Keys.

Gulf Stream Council is a council of the Boy Scouts of America in southeast Florida with the headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens.

The North Florida Council encompasses the 17 counties of northeast Florida.
