Six former Oriole franchise radio announcers have received the Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting: Chuck Thompson ( who was also the voice of the old NFL Baltimore Colts ); Jon Miller ( now with the San Francisco Giants ); Ernie Harwell, Herb Carneal ; Bob Murphy and Harry Caray ( as a St. Louis Browns announcer in the 1940s.

This made Colorado only the third team in the last half-century, and the first in the National League since the 1936 New York Giants, to have a 20 – 1 stretch at any point of a season.

A couple other division rivals such as the New York Giants and the Cardinals ( formerly in their time as their existence in St. Louis ) have purposely worn white at home against the Cowboys in the past.

The Giants, however, were contending for a playoff spot and a victory would have secured their spot and their division title.

In spite of the big sibling rivalry that has resulted in trash talk between the players, both teams have formed an unexpected and consequently strong partnership sharing Giants Stadium for twenty six years and MetLife Stadium, a venture in which both teams own a fifty percent share of the stadium.

During their history, the Giants have featured 15 Hall of Fame players, including NFL Most Valuable Player ( MVP ) award winners Mel Hein, Frank Gifford, Charlie Conerly, Y.

With over 80 years of team history, the Giants have used numerous uniforms and logos.

The Giants have had a long and, at times, turbulent financial history.

It has been estimated that the Giants have a waiting list of 135, 000 people, the largest of any franchise.

While the Giants have dominated this rivalry for most of their history, the series has been even for the last 20 years or so, with the series lead to the Eagles 22-21 through the 90 ’ s and 2000 ’ s.

The Giants and Jets have the only intracity rivalry in the NFL, made even more unusual by sharing a stadium.

Since the two teams play each other so infrequently in the regular season, some, including players on both teams, have questioned whether the Giants and Jets have a real rivalry.

The Giants lead the overall regular season series 8 – 4 and have won the last five meetings.

The Giants have an old and storied rivalry with the Redskins, dating back to 1932.

On January 11, 2009 the team defeated the defending Super Bowl Champions and the 2008 NFC East champion New York Giants 23 – 11 en route to their 5th NFC Championship Game in 8 years and 5th in the 10 years the Eagles have been coached by Andy Reid.

The Eagles have worn white for their home opener in every game since moving to Lincoln Financial Field in 2003, with the exceptions for the 2010 home opener ( see next paragraph ) and the 2011 home opener against the New York Giants.

The Giants ' 6 World Series Championships are also tied for second in the National League with the Dodgers ( the St. Louis Cardinals have won 11 ).

The Giants have played in the World Series an NL record 18 times, but boycotted the event in 1904.

With their history, the Giants have the most Hall of Fame players in all of professional baseball.

This could have been a disastrous scandal for baseball, but because Klem was honest and the Giants lost, it faded over time.

As with the New York years, the Giants ' fortunes in San Francisco have been mixed.

In his first official trade as GM, he shocked Giants fans by trading Matt Williams to Cleveland for what newspapers referred to as a ' bunch of spare parts ', with the negative reaction being great enough for him to have to publicly explain: " I didn't get to this point by being an idiot ...

The Giants routinely sell out this nearly 43, 000-seat stadium, whereas it was not uncommon for them to have a paid attendance of less than 10, 000 in Candlestick's nearly 60, 000 seating capacity, although by the 1999 season the Giants managed about 25, 000 fans a game.

It turned out that the Cubs and Giants ended the season tied for first place, so the game was indeed replayed, and the Cubs won the game, the pennant, and subsequently the World Series ( the last Cubs Series victory to date, as it turns out ).

Cleveland then won a playoff game 8-3 against the New York Giants on December 17 behind a pair of Groza field goals, turning the tables on a team that handed the Browns both of their regular-season losses.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Browns held a 10-3 advantage, but the Giants tied it then won it with two minutes left on a 49-yard field goal by Pat Summerall under snowy conditions.

The Marlins won the Division Series against the favored San Francisco Giants three games to one.

* Dontrelle Willis ( 2003 – 2007 ) — The " D-Train " was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 2003 and showcased his remarkable ( for a pitcher ) hitting ability by going 3-for-3 with a triple while scoring a run during Game 4 of the 2003 National League Division Series, which the Marlins won 7 – 6 over the San Francisco Giants to advance to the NL Championship Series.

The Brewers came out of the All-Star break with a bang as they won their first seven games back, all of them on the road, sweeping first the Giants and then the Cardinals, taking over first place in the Wild Card standings.

In 1981, Taylor won the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards and the Giants made the playoffs for the first time since 1963.

After starting 3 – 7 in 1994, the Giants won their final six games to finish 9 – 7 but missed the playoffs.

The Giants won their first playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles, 20 – 10, and defeated the Minnesota Vikings 41 – 0 in the NFC Championship game.

In 2008, the Giants won the NFC East with a record of 12 – 4 ( and also were the number one seed in the NFC after beating the Carolina Panthers for home field advantage ), but lost 23 – 11 to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The Giants won 17 – 14, but the Packers beat the Bears 10 – 3, so the Giants missed out on the playoffs again, ending a collapse in which the Giants went 4 – 4 in their last eight games.

The Redskins beat the Giants 28 – 14, but the Giants won their next three games against the Saint Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, and Arizona Cardinals.

The New York Giants won Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots with a score of 21 – 17.

As the New York Giants, they won 14 pennants and 5 World Championships, from the era of John McGraw and Christy Mathewson to that of Bobby Thomson and Willie Mays.

Under McGraw the Giants won ten National League pennants and three World Series championships.

The Giants won the 1905 World Series over the Philadelphia Athletics, with Christy Mathewson nearly winning the series single-handedly.

The Giants experienced some hard luck in the early 1910s, losing three straight World Series starting in 1911 to the A's, the Red Sox, and the A's again ( the Giants and the A's both won pennants in 1913 ; two seasons later, both teams finished in eighth place ).

During this time the Giants won three pennants, defeating the Senators in the 1933 World Series and losing to the Yankees in 1936 and 1937.
