In the People's Republic of China ( PRC ) since 1967, the terms Ultra-Left and left communist refers to political theory and practice self-defined as further " left " than that of the central Maoist leaders at the height of the GPCR (" Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution ").

On August 8, 1966, the party's Central Committee passed its " Decision Concerning the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution " ( a. k. a. " the 16 Points ").

In 1979, on the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the PRC, the government of Deng Xiaoping denounced the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution as a national failure ; and, in the 1980s, pursued pragmatic policies such as “ seeking truth from facts ” and the “ Chinese road to socialism ”, which withdrew the PRC from the high-level abstractions of ideology, polemic, and Russian Marxist revisionism ; the Sino-Soviet split had lost some political importance.

" They supported the Peoples Republic of China on the issues of the 1959 Tibetan uprising and the Sino-Indian Border War of 1962, and endorsed both the Great Leap Forward and the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, but criticized their characterization of the USSR as social imperialist, fearing that it would lead to Sino-American reproachment.
