Half Dome, Yosemite, a classic granite dome and popular rock climbing destination

Half Dome, a granite monolith in Yosemite National Park and part of the Sierra Nevada batholith.

A well-known result of this process is Half Dome, located in Yosemite Valley.

The valley is about long and up to a mile deep, surrounded by high granite summits such as Half Dome and El Capitan, and densely forested with pines.

Between them both, at the eastern end of the valley, is Half Dome, the most famous and most recognizable natural feature in the Sierra Nevada.

Above and to the northeast of Half Dome is Cloud's Rest ; at 9926 feet ( 3025 m ), the highest point around Yosemite Valley.

Tenaya Creek flows southwest from Tenaya Lake and down Tenaya Canyon, finally flowing between Half Dome and North Dome before joining the Merced River.

The youngest Yosemite Valley pluton is the 87 million year old Half Dome granodiorite, which makes up most of the rock at Glacier Point, the Royal Arches, and its namesake, Half Dome.

Their glaciers were huge and covered nearly all the landmarks around Yosemite Valley except Half Dome, Eagle Peak, Sentinel Dome, and the top of El Capitan.

The parallel Tenaya Canyon and Little Yosemite Canyon glaciers were, at their largest, 2, 000 feet ( 600 m ) deep where they flowed into the Yosemite Valley near the base of Half Dome.

They also formed Cloud's Rest behind Half Dome as an arête.

Half Dome is a granite dome in Yosemite National Park, located in northeastern Mariposa County, California, at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley — possibly Yosemite's most familiar rock formation.

Half Dome is nearly as whole as it ever was.

From Washburn Point, Half Dome can be seen as a thin ridge of rock oriented northeast-southwest, with its southeast side almost as steep as its northwest side except for the very top.

However, the arrival of the highway system with Rand Road, U. S. Route 12 in 1922 and Half Day Road, Illinois Route 22 in 1927 established Lake Zurich as a convenient summer resort.

Lincolnshire lies on three arterial roads: Illinois Route 22, which is known as Half Day Road in this area ; Milwaukee Avenue, which appears as Illinois Route 21 / U. S. Route 45 ; and Aptakisic Road, which meets Milwaukee in the southern region of Lincolnshire.

The present day right of way departs westward from Route 111 as Conklin's Road or Half Mile Road, passing St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church before terminating at the Smithtown / Islip border.

Among the accomplishments are a pedestrian bridge spanning U. S. Route 9 and NY 9A between the lower village and Senasqua Park, the Crossining pedestrian footbridge across the Croton River, the bicycle trail extensions around Half Moon Bay Condominiums, rehabilitation of the " Picture Tunnel " ( repaving and closing it to cars ), and acquisition and clearing of the Croton Landing property.

The northernmost portion of the Santa Cruz Mountains is known as Montara Mountain, north of Half Moon Bay Road ( California State Route 92 ) the middle portion is known as the Sierra Morena, which includes a summit called Sierra Morena, and extends south to a gap at Lexington Reservoir, south of the gap the mountain range is known as the Sierra Azul.
