Two of the yard tracks end before Ocean Parkway station, after which the four remaining tracks merge into two to climb up and over two more tracks of the IND Culver Line ( train ), which enter from the north.

Gravesend is served by three lines of the New York City Subway system: the D elevated line ( also called the BMT West End Line ), at the 25th Avenue and Bay 50th Street stations ; the F elevated line ( also called the IND Culver Line ), at the Kings Highway, Avenue U, and Avenue X stations, and the N open-cut line, ( also called the BMT Sea Beach Line ), at the Kings Highway, Avenue U, and Gravesend / 86th Street stations.

The original IND system was entirely underground in the four boroughs that it served, with the exception of a short section of the IND Culver Line containing two stations spanning the Gowanus Canal in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn.

* October 30, 1954: The Culver Ramp opens, connecting the IND Culver Line to the BMT Culver Line at Ditmas Avenue.

IND trains begin operating over the BMT Culver Line to Coney Island – Stillwell Avenue.

In the 1950s, the IND was extended over two pieces of elevated line that were disconnected from the original BMT system: the BMT Culver Line in 1954, and the Liberty Avenue extension of the BMT Fulton Street Line in 1956.

The Gowanus Expressway ( Interstate 278 ) and the IND Culver Line of the New York City Subway, the only above-ground section of the original Independent Subway System, pass over the canal.

The closest subway stops are along the IND Culver Line ( trains ), at either Carroll Street or Smith – Ninth Streets stations.

The area is served by the New York City Subway's BMT Brighton Line () at Avenue H, Avenue J, Avenue M, and Kings Highway, IND Culver Line with stations at Avenue I, Bay Parkway, Avenue N, Avenue P and Kings Highway, and the IRT Nostrand Avenue Line at Brooklyn College-Flatbush Avenue.

The Culver Ramp takes the IND Culver Line underground.

The subway arrived in 1933 with the building of the IND South Brooklyn Line, now known as the IND Culver Line ( trains ), which includes the 15th Street – Prospect Park and Fort Hamilton Parkway stations.

The G operates between Court Square in Long Island City, Queens and Church Avenue in Kensington, Brooklyn via the IND Crosstown and Culver Lines.

From south to north, Broadway at one point or another runs over or under the IRT Lexington Avenue Line, the BMT Broadway Line, the IRT Broadway – Seventh Avenue Line, and the IND Eighth Avenue Line:

* The northern portion of the IND Eighth Avenue Line runs under Broadway from Dyckman Street to Inwood – 207th Street ( train ).

The IND Eighth Avenue Line, which has a stub terminal serving the train under Five World Trade Center was not damaged, but covered in soot.

* September 10 – The IND Eighth Avenue Line, at this time the world's longest subway line (), begins operation in Manhattan.

The New York City Subway's 34th Street – Penn Station ( IRT Broadway – Seventh Avenue Line ) ( trains ) and 34th Street – Penn Station ( IND Eighth Avenue Line ) ( trains ) stations are next to the terminal.

In the late 2010s, the LIRR intends to start service to Grand Central Terminal via the East Side Access project ; provision was made for this route on the lower level of the 63rd Street Tunnel under the East River, which carries the New York City Subway's IND 63rd Street Line ( train ) on its upper level.

New York City Subway access via the IND 63rd Street Line finally arrived in 1989.

A portion of the IND Sixth Avenue Line runs under Houston Street, between Sixth Avenue to just before Avenue A ; there are stations at Second Avenue ( train ) and Broadway – Lafayette Street ( trains ).

Jackson Heights is the location of the Roosevelt Avenue / 74th Street transportation hub, where the IRT Flushing Line ( trains ), the IND Queens Boulevard Line ( trains ), and numerous bus routes converge.

The IND Eighth Avenue Line ( trains ) runs along Central Park West stopping at 59th, 72nd, 81st, 86th, 96th, 103rd, and 110th streets.

The first R1 cars to see passenger service were twenty individual cars to serve for two 8 car trains plus spares that were placed in revenue service on the BMT Sea Beach Line from July to November, 1931 for testing and then returned to the IND the same year.

Clinton Hill is served by the IND Fulton Street Line ( trains ), with a stop at the Clinton – Washington Avenues station as well as the IND Crosstown Line ( train ), with stops at Classon Avenue station and a separate Clinton – Washington Avenues station.

There is a low-level floor direct access to the Museum via the 81st Street-Museum of Natural History subway station on the IND Eighth Avenue Line at the south end of the upper platform ( where the uptown trains arrive ).

Brighton Local trains were rerouted to this new connector to serve the IND Queens Boulevard Line to Forest Hills – 71st Avenue.

Brighton Local trains ran in two sections, from Coney Island via tunnel to 57th Street and from Whitehall Street to Jamaica – 179th Street on the IND Queens Boulevard Line.

Lexington Avenue – 53rd Street ( trains ) on the IND Queens Boulevard Line and Lexington Avenue – 63rd Street ( train ) on the IND 63rd Street Line are also nearby.

It is located at the intersection of Queens Boulevard and Woodhaven Boulevard, adjacent to the Woodhaven Boulevard station ( trains ) on the IND Queens Boulevard Line of the New York City Subway.

New York City Subway stations are located at York Street ( train ) on the IND Sixth Avenue Line, and High Street ( trains ) on the IND Eighth Avenue Line.
