The Student Government Association at Illinois State University is a unique governing body for the ISU Student Body.

The only activity that is strictly forbidden by the ISU is participating in unsanctioned " pro " competitions, which the ISU uses to maintain their monopoly status as the governing body in the sport.

ISI competitions differ from those sanctioned by the ISU, USFSA, and other ISU-affiliated national governing bodies in several ways.

The International Skating Union ( ISU ) is the international governing body for competitive ice skating disciplines, including figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating, and short track speed skating.

As of the summer of 2008, the ISU consisted of 63 member nations, with a governing council of 11.

However, there was no governing body until 1907, when eight national federations founded the union, soon to be called Union International de Tir ( UIT ) ( French for the International Shooting Union and sometimes referred to in English as the ISU ).

Very few skaters have such an ability to perform jumps and spins in both directions, and it is now considered a " difficult variation " in spins under the ISU Judging System to rotate in the non-dominant direction.

ISU is also included in Carnegie's new Curricular Engagement and Outreach & Partnerships category that recognizes substantial commitments to both an academic approach to mutually beneficial and respectful community collaboration and extensive outreach and partnerships.

In the ensuing years, ISU continuously expanded both its enrollment and the programs it offered.

The Bengals still enjoy a healthy rivalry in basketball with both the University of Idaho, who they have dominated in recent years, and Boise State, who has dominated ISU in recent years.

However, the ISI and International Skating Union have a mutual agreement that allows skaters to have membership in both organizations, and be able to compete in both ISI and ISU competitions without losing eligible status in either organization.

Hilton offers newly refurbished dressing rooms for both the ISU women's and men's teams, and additional rooms for visiting teams and officials.

Following the 2009-10 season, the ISU congress voted to change the format of ice dance events and make them more similar to pairs and singles skating.

Within the next few years, the ISU abandoned one of its long-held practices, eliminating the use of mandatory figures in the singles ' figure skating competitions and reducing their use in ice dancing.

The ISU later organised its own World Cup circuit with monetary prizes, and full-time professional teams developed in the Netherlands during the 1990s, which led them to a dominance on the men's side only challenged by Japanese 500 m racers and American inline skaters who changed to long tracks to win Olympic gold.

Skaters started in pairs, each to their own lane, and changed lanes for every lap to ensure that each skater completed the same distance.

However, the ISU adopted the short track speed skating branch, with mass-start races on shorter tracks, in 1967, arranged international competitions from 1976, and brought them back to the Olympics in 1992.

Modified M2A2 ODSs with the TOW missile system replaced with a two-tube Javelin Missile System, and ISU ( Integrated Sight Unit ) modifications for increased anti-tank lethality, without the need to continually track the target.

In more recent years ISU has been competitive in track and field winning the Big Sky Conference Indoor title in 2005 and 2006.

In the 1930s, women began to be accepted in ISU speed skating competitions.

The International Skating Union ( ISU ) was founded in 1892 to govern speed skating and figure skating.

It is Norway's national venue for speed skating and bandy, and holds annual ISU Speed Skating World Cup races, as well as regular world championships.

The ISU Judging System restricts combinations in the free skating to a maximum of three jumps.

This event is considered the most prestigious of the ISU Championships ( the three other annual figure skating competitions designated " ISU Championships " are the European Championships, the Four Continents Championships, and the World Junior Championships ).

After the 2006 championships in Calgary, Canada, the ISU Congress voted to eliminate the qualifying round for single skaters, leaving just the short program and free skating.

* There is a certain amount of difference in competition judging, depending upon the attitudes, policies, and general emphasis of the host rink: rinks with strong programs in the serious end of the sport tend to structure and judge ISI competitions almost as if they were ISU or USFS competitions ( emphasizing the ISI's role as a " farm system " for the serious end of the sport ), whereas rinks primarily catering to recreational skaters tend to structure and judge their competitions in such a way as to maximize the number of awards handed out ( emphaizing the ISI's role of promoting skating as a purely recreational activity ).

The ISU was formed to establish standardized international rules and regulations for the skating disciplines it governs, and to organize international competitions in these disciplines.

For example, Sonia Bianchetti, former chair of the ISU Technical Committee, has referred to the two-footed Salchow entry as " a severe error for which a steep deduction had to be applied by the judges ".

During World War II, most purpose-built German Wehrmacht and Soviet Red Army tank destroyers and self-propelled guns ( like the Wehrmacht's Sturmgeschütz III ) essentially had turretless, armored steel casemates mounted onto ( or built integrally into ) conventional main battle tank chassis to carry heavier, forward firing guns — the German vehicles were dubbed Jagdpanzer and Panzerjäger respectively, while their Soviet counterparts all bore an " SU -" or " ISU -" prefix, with the " SU -" prefix an abbreviation for Samokhodnaya Ustanovka in Russian, or " self-propelled installation " in their designations, much like the U. S. Army's designation for self-propelled artillery, and American tank destroyers, as a " Gun Motor Carriage ".

The ISU has also been referred to as the " Nutting Squad ".
