Despite the fact that the Italian border is less than 20 km away and that Ajdovščina was under Italian administration from 1918 to 1945 as a commune of the Province of Gorizia ( as Aidussina ), except during the period between 1924 and 1927, when the Province of Gorizia was abolished and annexed to the Province of Udine during Italian rule ( 1918 – 1943, nominally lasted to 1945 ), the style of the town does not resemble that of a typical Italian town.

Since Venetia has been a part of Italy except for Friuli and Eastern Veneto during Austrian occupation in World War I and under the Fascist Italian Social Republic from September 1943 to April 1945, when Belluno province and Udine – Gorizia – Trieste provinces were administrated by Nazi Germany even if they formally belonged to the Social Republic.

At the time, Gorizia was a multiethnic town: Italian and Venetian, Slovene, Friulian and German were spoken in the town centre, while in the suburbs Slovene and Friulian prevailed.

The hills west of Gorizia soon became a scenery of fierce battles between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian Army.

In the first years of Italian administration, Gorizia was included in the Governorate of Julian March ( 1918 – 1919 ).

The idea of unity among Ladin, Romansh and Friulan comes from the Italian historical linguist Graziadio Isaia Ascoli, who was born in Gorizia.

Idrija was a comune of the Province of Gorizia ( as Idria ), except during the period between 1924 and 1927, when the Province of Gorizia was abolished and annexed to the Province of Udine during Italian rule ( 1918 – 1943, nominally lasted to 1947 ).

Farra d ' Isonzo (, ) is an Italian comune in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the province of Gorizia.

The Italian translation of Baum ’ s book “ Die Grafen von Görz in der europäischen Politik des Mittelalters ” ( 2nd edition ) was published in Gorizia, Italy.
