Superman would use this knowledge for such tasks as constructing advanced Kryptonian technology or observing some of Krypton's traditions.

The super-advanced technology of its Kryptonian inhabitants gave the denizens of Argo City the ability to construct a life-sustaining dome that allowed them to survive for several years, in addition to building a lead shield that protected their city from the Kryptonite radiation of their asteroid.

The crystalline motif was employed not only in the architecture, but in the landscape and technology as well, suggesting that the entire planet had been adapted and altered by Kryptonian influence.

Superman Returns extends the crystalline Kryptonian technology from Superman which allowed young Clark Kent to " grow " the Fortress of Solitude.

In addition, access to Kryptonian technology and artifacts is initially severely restricted such as the ship containing a phantom zone projector and Braniac's technology, although Superman later finds a devastated colony in Krypton's solar system with partially salvagable technology in addition to Kara In-Ze in her functioning cryostasis capsule.

Although Brainiac 13 was able to gain control of several android superheroes, such as the Red Tornado, Hourman, and the Metal Men, and use them against Superman, Superman discovered during a fight with the Eradicator — attempting to stop the Kryptonian program from ' hi-jacking ' the B13 virus and using it for its own ends — that Brainiac 13 could not cope with Kryptonian technology because he was not compatible with it, giving Superman a plan to stop Brainiac's scheme, tricking Luthor into connecting a Kryptonian battlesuit to one of Brainiac's power conduits and subsequently working with the reactivated Red Tornado to break Brainiac 13 down into his respective nanobots and trap him in the suit.

Having been defeated by Kryptonian technology, Brainiac 13 had traveled back in time to the real Krypton prior to its destruction, stolen the Eradicator matrix and Jor-El's diaries, and created a false Krypton based on Jor-El's favorite period in history.

* The Man of Tomorrow, also called the Cyborg Superman, arrived with augmented Kryptonian technology.

The novelization by Marv Wolfman further expands on the " S " as well, stating that one of Superman's ancestors helped civilize Krypton long ago, and the crest was considered one of the three most respected icons in Kryptonian culture.

Eventually, the rule that Superman should be the only Kryptonian survivor was relaxed, allowing for a return of Kara Zor-El as his cousin.

These traits extended into Clark's wardrobe, which typically consists of a bland-colored business suit, a red necktie, black-rimmed glasses ( which in Pre-Crisis stories had lenses of Kryptonian material that would not be damaged when he fired his heat vision through them ), combed-back hair, and occasionally a fedora.

Although the Eradicator's effects ( altering the DNA of all Kryptonian life-forms so that they would instantly die upon leaving the planet ) were felt immediately, the Destroyer's effects were possibly more significant: By the time the Kryptonian government admitted defeat and abolished the clone banks, a pro-clone rights terrorist faction known as Black Zero had started the Destroyer, a device which functioned as a giant nuclear gun, projecting massive streams of nuclear energy into the core of Krypton, intended to trigger an explosive chain reaction within Krypton's core almost immediately.

In the New Earth continuity, dark-skinned Kryptonians are more integrated into Kryptonian society than they were in the silver and pre-modern age DC universe.

Its plot concerns Supergirl, Superman's cousin, leaving her isolated Kryptonian community of Argo City for Earth in an effort to retrieve the unique " Omegahedron ", which has fallen into the hands of the evil witch Selena ( Faye Dunaway ).

During the " Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds " storyline, Brainiac 5 resurrects Conner in the 31st century after arranging for him to spend 1000 years in the Kryptonian regeneration chamber that revived Superman after his battle with Doomsday and introducing into it a hair from Lex Luthor.

Upon learning the identity of his human DNA donor, Luthor gives Connor a tool ( named Shields ) that unleashes his full Kryptonian powers but also causes him to go into a nearly-blind rage.

During this time, he also played an important role in Superman's defeat of Brainiac 13 ; when Brainiac took control of the robotic heroes until they were shut down by an EM-pulse generated by Lex Luthor in a stolen Kryptonian battlesuit, Kelex, Superman's fortress robot, reactivated Red Tornado so that they could use him to break Brainiac 13 down into his component nanobots and trap him inside Luthor's battlesuit.

With mere minutes before Krypton is to be destroyed, Jor-El loads Kal-El into the rocketship which had been intended for a single Kryptonian who would restore Krypton's population from the Phantom Zone, and dies with his wife Lara as the planet explodes.

* In the Superman Returns video game, Jor-El appears in the cutscene when Lex Luthor breaks into the Fortress of Solitude and takes the Kryptonian crystals of the Fortress.

Following Superboy's disappearance from the pocket universe Earth, the Lex Luthor of that world is tricked into releasing Kryptonian criminals General Zod, Quex-Ul and Zaora from the Phantom Zone.

Superman and Captain Marvel fight the monster, but it is revealed to be Brainiac, who coerces Superman ( using the bottled Kryptonian city of Kandor as leverage ) into losing the battle in order to crush the people's faith in superheroes.
