Bartók, who had made some recordings in Hungary, also recorded for Columbia Records after he came to the US ; many of these recordings ( some with Bartók's own spoken introductions ) were later issued on LP and CD ( Bartók 1994, 1995a, 1995b, 2003, 2007, 2008 ).

The first of these releases came in 1976 when Beserkley compiled a posthumous LP from the first two demo sessions produced by Cale and Mason ; issued on Beserkley's Home of the Hits subsidiary, the album was simply titled The Modern Lovers and included celebrated tracks such as " Roadrunner ", " She Cracked ", and " Pablo Picasso ".

Mushroom struggled to survive for its first two years and reportedly came close to folding on several occasions, but the label was dramatically pushed to the forefront of the Australian music scene in early 1975 following the massive success of Skyhooks, whose debut album, Living in the 70's, became the biggest-selling Australian LP ever released up to that time.

Their win for Album of the Year came as a shock as they defeated Eminem and his highly controversial album The Marshall Mathers LP.

Dave Swarbrick, fiddle-player in the English folk-rock band Fairport Convention, came across a series of old newspaper articles about Lee and was inspired to compose the folk rock opera Babbacombe Lee, which was recorded and released by Fairport Convention as an LP in 1971.

A significant recording came in 1999 working with Don Fury ( Quicksand, Snapcase, Orange 9mm, The Hearing Aides ), showcasing songs that appeared on their debut LP Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence.
