Anthropomorphized rabbits have appeared in a host of works of film, literature, and technology, notably the White Rabbit and the March Hare in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland ; in the popular novels Watership Down, by Richard Adams ( which has also been made into a movie ) and Rabbit Hill by Robert Lawson, as well as in Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit stories.

Thomas Hare ( born in England, 28 March 1806 ; died 6 May 1891 ) was a British proponent of electoral reform.

In this chapter, the March Hare and Hatter of the first book make a brief re-appearance in the guise of " Anglo-Saxon messengers " called " Haigha " and " Hatta " ( i. e. " Hare " and " Hatter "— these names are the only hint given as to their identities other than John Tenniel's illustrations ).

The characters of Hatta and Haigha ( pronounced as the English would have said " hatter " and " hare ") make an appearance, and are pictured ( by Sir John Tenniel, not by Carroll ) to resemble their Wonderland counterparts, the Hatter and the March Hare.

The Hatter explains to Alice that he and the March Hare are always having tea because, when he tried to sing for the Queen of Hearts at her celebration, she sentenced him to death for " murdering the time ," but he escapes decapitation.

In retaliation, Time ( referred to as a " Him ") halts himself in respect to the Hatter, keeping him and the March Hare stuck at 6: 00 forever.

He is also mentioned as being one of the White King's messengers, and the March Hare appears as well as " Haigha ", since the King explains that he needs two messengers: " one to come, and one to go.

Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry “ Butch ” O ’ Hare ( March 13, 1914 – November 26, 1943 ) was an Irish-American naval aviator of the United States Navy who on February 20, 1942 became the U. S. Navy's first flying ace and Medal of Honor recipient in World War II.
