Finn formed a new band called The Mullanes ( Mullane being both his middle name and his mother's maiden name ) with Split Enz drummer Paul Hester, guitarist Craig Hooper of The Reels and bassist Nick Seymour ( younger brother of Hunters & Collectors leader Mark Seymour ), whom Neil had met on the final Split Enz tour.

Initially, the new band formed by Hester and Neil Finn was named " The Mullanes " and then underwent a few name changes.

The name change was prompted by their record company rejecting the name The Mullanes as well as the band's second choice, Largest Living Things, although Hester used that name for a project of his in the late 1990s.

In May 1999 Crowded House issued a compilation of unreleased songs, Afterglow, which included the track " Recurring Dream ", recorded when the group were still called The Mullanes and included Craig Hooper on guitar.

Hooper joined The Church as keyboard player, and later joined The Mullanes, the original incarnation of what became Crowded House.

Most of the Crowded House album was written while the band was still called The Mullanes.

Skyhooks were an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in March 1973 by mainstays Greg Macainsh on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Imants " Freddie " Strauks on drums.

Greg Macainsh and Imants " Freddie " Strauks both attended Norwood High School in the Melbourne suburb of Ringwood and formed Spare Parts in 1966 with Macainsh on bass guitar and Strauks on lead vocals.
