Édouard Gagnon, OC ( January 15, 1918 – August 25, 2007 ) was a Canadian Roman Catholic cardinal and President of the Pontifical Council for the Family for 16 years, from 1974 to 1990.

He fully supported the prohibition on contraception in Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae, and was vice-president and then president of the Pontifical Council for the Family from 1974 until he resigned in 1990.

Alfonso López Trujillo ( 8 November 1935 – 19 April 2008 ) was a Colombian Cardinal Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church and president of the Pontifical Council for the Family.

He also directed Social Communications for the Archdiocese of Durango, was the diocesan advisor to the Christian Family Movement, and taught ecclesiology at the Pontifical University of Mexico from 1982 to 1985.

He also holds membership in the Pontifical Council for the Family, Congregation for the Clergy, and Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in the Roman Curia.

He was named the first President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity and of that for Justice and Peace on January 6, 1967, and then first President of Family on January 11, 1973.
