* American actress Elaine Stritch lived in the Savoy Hotel in London for over a decade.

The metal was later marketed under the ' Staybrite ' brand by Firth Vickers in England and was used for the new entrance canopy for the Savoy Hotel in London in 1929.

In 2006, Christine was awarded the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors ' Gold Badge of Merit at a ceremony held in London's Savoy Hotel.

Carte also built London's Savoy Hotel and acquired other luxury hotels.

Savoy Hotel, Strand entrance

The Savoy Hotel, designed by architect Thomas Edward Collcutt, opened in 1889.

Five years after the payments began, Mulroney and Schreiber met again in a suite at the Hotel Savoy in Zurich, Switzerland.

Henry made Peter Earl of Richmond in 1241 and gave him the land between the Strand and the Thames, where Peter built the Savoy Palace in 1263, on the site of the present Savoy Hotel.

In 1889, Richard D ' Oyly Carte built the Savoy Hotel next to the theatre.

After Rupert D ' Oyly Carte's death in 1948, his daughter, Bridget D ' Oyly Carte, succeeded to the D ' Oyly Carte Opera Company and became a director and later president of the Savoy Hotel group, which controlled the theatre.

The Savoy Hotel group, including the theatre, was sold in 2004 to Quinlan Private which, in turn, sold the theatre in 2005 to the Ambassador Theatre Group ( selling the Savoy Hotel to Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal ).

For years, whenever he was in London, Harris resided at the Savoy Hotel.

Savoy would then serve as a gateway into France by way of the mountain passes or, alternatively, an invasion with naval support along the Mediterranean coast via Nice and Toulon in connection with redoubled Allied efforts in Spain.

On the death of Louis II in 1417 it reverted to Savoy, and, although Count René again retook the area for Provence in 1471, it had returned to Savoyard dominance by the start of the 16th century, by which point the County of Provence had become united with the Kingdom of France due to the death of Count Charles V in 1481.

The town was retaken by the Duke of Savoy in 1630 ; and in 1691 it was captured by the troops of the Marquis de Vins during the War of the League of Augsburg.

Initially agreement had been reached for him to marry Margaret of Geneva, daughter of William I, Count of Geneva, but the young bride's journey to Paris was interrupted by Thomas I of Savoy, who kidnapped Philip's intended new queen and married her instead, claiming that Philip was already bound in marriage.
