Karma ( ; ) in Indian religions is the concept of " action " or " deed ", understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect ( i. e., the cycle called saṃsāra ) originating in ancient India and treated in the Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh religions.

In the Gurū Graṅth Sāhib, the Sikh scripture, the concept of the supreme reality is dynamic.

Sikh scriptures teach the concept of moderation.

Kapur Singh later played an important role in drafting the Anandpur Resolution which postulated preservation of " the concept of distinct and sovereign identity " of the Khalsa or simply the Sikh ( Nation ).

The Sikh Gurus were fundamental to the Sikh religion, however the concept in Sikhism differs from other usages.

The Sikh mukti is positive concept in two important ways.

As with all Sikh Gurdwaras, the concept of langar is practiced, and all people, regardless of race or religion may eat in the Gurdwara kitchen ( langar hall ).

Sikh Dharma is a distinct religion revealed through the teachings of ten Gurus who are accepted by the followers as if they were spiritually the same.

To a Sikh, birth and death are closely associated, because they are both part of the cycle of human life of " coming and going " ( ਆਵਣ ੁ ਜ ਾ ਣ ਾ, Aana Jaana ) which is seen as transient stage towards Liberation ( ਮ ੋ ਖ ੁ ਦ ੁ ਆਰ ੁ, Mokh Du-aar ), complete unity with God.

The public display of grief at the funeral or Antam Sanskar as it is called in the Sikh culture, such as wailing or crying out loud is discouraged and should be kept to a minimum.

On the day of the cremation, the body is taken to the Gurdwara or home where hymns ( Shabads ) from the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Scriptures are recited by the congregation, which induce feeling of consolation and courage.

The opinion given by traditional scholars for this is that as the Sikh holy writings, before they were written down, were uttered by the Gurus, they came to be known as Gurmukhi or the " Utterance of the Guru ".

Another view is that as the Gurmukhs, in accordance with the Sikh belief, used to meditate on the letters ਵ, ਹ, ਗ, ਰ which jointly form ਵ ਾ ਹ ਿ ਗ ੁ ਰ ੂ or God in Sikhism, these letters were called Gurmukhī, or " of the Gurmukhs ".

Sikhs have an obligation not to cut hair ( a Sikh cutting hair becomes ' apostate ' which means fallen from religion ) and men keep it tied in a bun on the head, which is then covered appropriately using a turban.

It is unclear that Jahangir even understood what a Sikh was, referring to Guru Arjun as a Hindu, who had " captured many of the simple-hearted of the Hindus, and even of the ignorant and foolish followers of Islam, by his ways and manners ... for three or four generations ( of spiritual successors ) they had kept this shop warm.

The Sikh holy scriptures refer to the One God who pervades the whole of space and is the creator of all beings in the universe.

The Sikh gurus have described God in numerous ways in their hymns included in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, but the oneness of the deity is consistently emphasized throughout.

An example of Sikhism's commitment to tolerance is the fact that the foundation stone of one of the most prominent shrines of the Sikhs — Darbar Sahib, Amritsar also known as the Golden Temple — was laid, not by the many eminent Sikh leaders or the 4th Sikh Guru Ramdas, who was the leader of the Sikhs at that time, but by a Sufi Muslim by the name of Sain Mian Mir.

The Sikh religion also teaches that human life is very precious, described as more precious than a diamond, which comes after great spiritual deeds and merits are done, and Sikh teachings are filled with guidance on how one should conduct one's self in order to find peace in this life and unite with God.

The Sikh Regiment is one of the most highly decorated and is believed to be the most courageous, powerful and skilled regiment of the Indian Army, with 73 Battle Honours, 14 Victoria Crosses, 21 first class Indian Order of Merit ( equivalent to the Victoria Cross ), 15 Theatre Honours and 5 COAS Unit Citations besides 2 Param Vir Chakras, 14 Maha Vir Chakras, 5 Kirti Chakras, 67 Vir Chakras and 1596 other gallantry awards.

Self-image may be directed toward conforming to mainstream values ( military-style crew cuts or current " fad " hairstyles such as the Dido flip ), identifying with distinctively groomed subgroups ( e. g., punk hair ), or obeying religious dictates ( e. g., Orthodox Jewish have payot, Rastafari have Dreadlocks, North India jatas, or the Sikh practice of Kesh ), though this is highly contextual and a " mainstream " look in one setting may be limited to a " subgroup " in another.

Amrik Singh was also one of the Sikh community's most prominent leaders along with Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
