Brigham Young took Smith's advice and led his followers, known in modern times as the Mormon pioneers, to Nebraska and then in 1847 to what became the Utah Territory.

In 1845 Douglas, serving in his first term in the United States House of Representatives, had submitted an unsuccessful plan to formally organize the Nebraska Territory as the first step in building a railroad with its eastern terminus in Chicago.

In early 1853 the House of Representatives passed a bill by a 107-to-49 vote that organized the Nebraska Territory in land west of Iowa and Missouri.

To prevent war, Brigham Young led the Mormon pioneers ( constituting most of the Latter Day Saints ) to a temporary winter quarters in Nebraska and then eventually ( beginning in 1847 ) to what became the Utah Territory.

Thus act creating the Kansas Territory and the Nebraska Territory, west of the State of Missouri and the State of Iowa.

) After the rail line's initial steep climb through the bluffs of west Omaha and out of the Missouri River Valley, the route followed the Platte River west through Nebraska, establishing many townships along the way ( Elkhorn, Grand Island, North Platte, Ogallala, Sidney, Nebraska ), the Colorado Territory ( Julesburg ), the Wyoming Territory ( Cheyenne, Laramie, Green River, Evanston ), the Utah Territory ( Ogden, Brigham City, Corinne ), and connecting with the Central Pacific at Promontory Summit.

From various " jumping off points " in Missouri, Iowa or Nebraska Territory, the routes converged along the lower Platte River Valley near Fort Kearny, Nebraska Territory and led to rich farmlands west of the Rocky Mountains.

The Pike's Peak Gold Rush ( later known as the Colorado Gold Rush ) was the boom in gold prospecting and mining in the Pike's Peak Country of western Kansas Territory and southwestern Nebraska Territory of the United States that began in July 1858 and lasted until roughly the creation of the Colorado Territory on February 28, 1861.

In 1881, the US returned of Knox County, Nebraska to the Ponca, and about half the tribe moved back north from Indian Territory.

Indian Country was reduced to the approximate boundaries of the current state of Oklahoma by the Kansas – Nebraska Act of 1854, which created Kansas Territory and Nebraska Territory.

Thus at the same time that William Henry Harrison was preparing to pacify the aborigines of Indiana Territory and winning fame at the battle of Tippecanoe, Anglo-Saxon settlement made a great leap into the center of the North American continent to the west of the American agricultural frontier.

The 1857 Congressional rejection of the pro-slavery Lecompton Constitution was the first multi-party solid-North vote, and that solid vote was anti-slavery to support the anti-slavery majority in Kansas Territory.

The Alabama, Coosa, and Tallapoosa rivers were central to the homeland of the Creek Indians before their removal by United States forces to the Indian Territory in the 1830s. In 1712 the Alabama River was descovered.

In the Australian Capital Territory, the Act of Settlement was, on 11 May 1989, converted, from an act of the Parliament of England into an ACT enactment, by section 34 ( 4 ) of the Australian Capital Territory ( Self-Government ) Act 1988 ( Cwlth ), and then renamed The Act of Settlement 1700 by the Legislation Act 2001.

Pike was commissioned as a brigadier general on November 22, 1861, and given a command in the Indian Territory.

Queen Victoria chose British Columbia to distinguish what was the British sector of the Columbia District from that of the United States (" American Columbia " or " Southern Columbia "), which became the Oregon Territory in 1848 as a result of the treaty.

He was the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( LDS Church ) from 1847 until his death in 1877, he founded Salt Lake City, and he served as the first governor of the Utah Territory, United States.

The CLP dominated the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from its establishment in 1978 to 2001, but lost Government in 2001 and was reduced to four parliamentary members in 2005.

The Country Liberal Party ( CLP ) was established in the Northern Territory in 1974.

The loss marked a major turning point in Northern Territory politics, a result which was exacerbated when, at the 2005 NT election, the ALP won a second landslide victory, reducing the once-dominant party to a total of just four members in the Legislative Assembly. The 2008 saw the CLP reverse its earlier election losses, increasing its representation from four to 11 members.

The Yukon Territory was created by Ottawa in 1898, followed by Alberta and Saskatchewan in 1905.

Nunavut Territory was created in 1999.

As the area was part of the Utah Territory, it was governed from Salt Lake City, where the territorial government was headquartered.

Services to Tasmania and the Northern Territory took longer to start, not until the mid 2000s when the digital satellite pay television service had picked up momentum and was beginning to be used for metropolitan installs and not just rural installs.

The city was incorporated as a result of a resolution by Iowa Representative Jonathan W. Parker by special charter in the Iowa Territory on January 25, 1839.

Their combined territory was extended by a licence to the North-Western Territory, so it reached to the Arctic Ocean on the North and the Pacific Ocean on the West.

Ten years later, the town was sold and the Harmonists moved westward to the Indiana Territory, where they established the town of Harmony, now called New Harmony, Indiana, and remained there from 1815 to 1825.

Once established at Harmony, Pennsylvania, the Society planned to replace the log dwellings with brick structures, but the group moved to the Indiana Territory before the plan was completed.

He was soon transferred to the newly formed 1st Cavalry Regiment ( 1855 ) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas Territory, where he became regimental quartermaster and commissary officer under the command of Col. Edwin V. Sumner.

In 1948, the Federal Capital Territory of Pakistan was created, comprising approximately of Karachi and surrounding areas, but this was merged into the province of West Pakistan in 1961.

In the Compromise of 1850, Utah and New Mexico Territory had been organized without any restrictions on slavery, and many supporters of Douglas argued that this compromise had already superseded the Missouri Compromise.

Effective on October 1, 1804, the purchased territory was organized into the Territory of Orleans ( most of which became the state of Louisiana ) and the District of Louisiana, which was temporarily under the control of the governor and judges of the Indiana Territory.

They are classified by the UN as a Non-Self-Governing Territory, and are currently an organized, unincorporated United States territory.

Dutch privateer Joost van Dyk organized the first permanent settlements in the Territory in Soper's Hole, on the west end of Tortola.

Indian Territory was never an organized incorporated territory of the United States.

The Oklahoma organic act of 1890 created an organized incorporated territory of the United States of Oklahoma Territory, with the intent of combining the Oklahoma and Indian territories into a single State of Oklahoma.

The Western Lakes Confederacy was a loose confederacy of tribes around the Great Lakes region following the American Revolutionary War organized to resist the expansion of the US into the Northwest Territory.

It was the first county to be organized in the Mississippi Territory, eighteen years before Mississippi became a state.

Nez Perce County was originally organized in 1861, when the area was part of Washington Territory.

When the Missouri Territory was organized in 1812, St. Louis was the seat of government.
