The province is bounded on the east by a group of green-swathed volcanoes forming the Cordillera de Guanacaste ( which features Orosi, Rincón de la Vieja, Miravalles and Tenorio volcanoes ) and the Cordillera de Tilaran.

He divides his time between his professorship in biology at the University of Pennsylvania ( Philadelphia, USA ), where he has been since 1976, and his research and field work in Costa Rica, where he is an ad honorem ( without remuneration ) technical advisor for two long-term and long-range projects, which he conceived and initiated in the early 1970s: Area de Conservación Guanacaste, one of the oldest, largest and most successful habitat restoration project in the world, 1. 430 km², located just south of the Costa Rica-Nicaragua border, between the Pacific Ocean and the Cordillera de Tilaran ; and the Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad ( INBio ), a research organisation that has taken the task of inventorying, cataloguing and describing the country's gigantic natural endowment.

It is located in the Arenal Tilaran Conservation Area, and is close to the Arenal Volcano and Monteverde cloud forest.

Hardly less important is the Ruwenzori Range, over, which lies east of the western trough.

The city is sied on the lower slopes of the Taragarh Hill in the Aravalli Range.

The Aravalli Range is the distinguishing feature of the district.

The clouds which strike Kathiawar and Kutch are deprived of a great deal of their moisture by the hills in those countries ( now the majority of this region is in Gujarat state within independent India ), and the greater part of the remainder is deposited on Mount Abu and the higher slopes of the Aravalli Range, leaving but little for Merwara, where the hills are lower, and still less for Ajmer.

The Columbia, Colorado, and Mississippi watersheds meet at Three Waters Mountain in the Wind River Range of To the south, in Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, the Columbia watershed is divided from the Great Basin, whose several watersheds are endorheic, not emptying into any ocean but rather drying up or sinking into sumps.

Chiles principal growing region and agricultural heartland is the Central Valley delimited by the Chilean Coast Range in the west, the Andes in the east Aconcagua River by the north and Bío-Bío River by the south.

The Guanacaste Range is in northern Costa Rica near the border with Nicaragua.

Much of the Talamanca Range is included in the La Amistad International Park, which is shared between Costa Rica and Panama.

The Colorado Front Range is a colloquial geographic term for the most populous region of the state of Colorado in the United States.

The area is located just east of the foothills of the Front Range, aligned in a north-south configuration on the western edge of the Great Plains, where they meet the Rockies.

The climate is hot and humid in the river basin and cool and dry in the southern highlands, with a cold, alpine climate in the Ruwenzori Range.

Just outside the town, parallel to the Nevis Range Gondola, there is a large downhill mountain bike track which attracts thousands of visitors every year, including international competitors and fans.

The Western Rift, also called the Albertine Rift, is edged by some of the highest mountains in Africa, including the Virunga Mountains, Mitumba Mountains, and Ruwenzori Range.

The Darwin Range in the south western part of the main island contains many glaciers that reach the ocean.

Because the only mountain-building since then has been of the Stirling Range with the rifting from Antarctica, the land is extremely eroded and ancient, with no part of the state above 1, 245 metres ( 4, 085 ft ) AHD ( at Mount Meharry in the Hamersley Range of the Pilbara region ).
